#250: Visit Ten Broeck Mansion
The Ten Broeck Mansion is located in Albany. It was built in 1797 by Elizabeth (Van Rensselaer) Ten Broeck for her husband. Originally built in the Federal style, the house was later renovated in Greek-revival style. In 1848, Thomas Worth Olcott purchased the house and renamed it Arbor Hill.
The Ten Broecks and the Van Rensselaers were rich families in the area that were instrumental to creating new towns, joining politics, running banks, etc. The house is a reflection of their wealth at that time.
In addition to the house tour, the grounds have some lovely gardens.
