I film the drug usage/sales, the homeless drinking on the sidewalk of 5th and jackson, the fights and destruction of hing hay park, the prostitution in kobe terrace park and in the BoA Chinatown parking lot but always at a safe distance."other side of the street or a decent distance that i can pull mace out in time" Sometimes those being filmed doing these illegal activities escalate to violence. Ive had dealers come at me w baseball bats, drunks come at me w broken beer bottles. usually its more bark than bite. i carry mace and have a concealed carry permit. today i was told by a king sector officer that i need to stop antagonizing these people into a physical confrontation and then calling the police after ive maced them. i asked if that was the official stance from the west precinct. he said there are several officers and community leaders that feel that way. I was shocked and hurt. i asked to speak to a Sargent as i felt that saying im the party to blame because these criminals attempted to assault me for taking photos of their actions was asinine. i have a spotless record, a close relationship with several officers in my sector and community leaders. how am i the bad guy here? i just want these animals off the streets/out of our doorways. We have a huge homeless drinking problem that 9/10 times escalates into fights/stabbings. Property crime 24hrs a day. There are as many people smoking crack in the doorways and parks as there are people smoking cigarettes. The encampment at 8th and weller just had a huge drug and gun bust, yet the camp remains. Prostitution in kode terrace 15ft from elderly people gardening and between cars in BoA parking lot. Heroin being used in donnie chin park in the middle of the afternoon while kids are playing on the slide. maybe the police are right, im the bad guy for not wanting this in my neighborhood. i wish more people would stand up against this behavior.
