"Saisai-sensei, something has been on my mind as of late." Iida sat down on a chair that seemed to appear out of nowhere. "It all started when I was a child, I would always listen to my parent's stories of their battles with villains as heroes, and would become so determined to uphold justice like them. But ever since the incident with Stain, I've started to question just what this system called justice is, is it a universal law? or a concept set up by those with power to control the weak?"
the thing is, my boy, “Justice” and “Order” are two different things
“Justice” is about righting wrongs, helping people, fixing mistakes, etc. “Order,” which is what most governments fall into, is about preventing chaos, by any means necessary. some governments do it with a democracy, where their citizens have a say in what goes on, others don’t care and simply force people into submission to keep trouble from arising.
people, no matter where they come from or what they do, are flawed. this is a universal fact; nothing is perfect. everything in society is ruled by humans, including systems of government and ideas of justice. even the best government that tries to rule fairly is going to be flawed, because the people who run it are flawed.
things like “justice” and “government” aren’t monoliths. they’re multi-part systems in which people work together. sometimes they work well, and sometimes they don’t. but they are all flawed in their own ways, no matter their intentions, and that can make or break a system.
the world is not black and white, my boy. there are shades of gray everywhere. if a father murders the man who accidentally killed his son, who would you consider the victim? would you say that the man who killed the son deserved to die, even if he didn’t intend to do it? even if he tried to make up for what he did? the father would consider it justice, but the family of the man wouldn’t.
likewise, heroes are not perfect. they try their hardest to help those in need, but they, just like everyone else, are flawed. there is only so much people can do. sometimes, there is no good or bad.
the only thing you can do is try to do what you think is right. if you see people doing something amoral or wrong, try to fix it. the “ideals” of justice, the ideals of helping innocents and doing what you believe is right, is generally universal, even if people view or interpret exactly what those may be differently.
people in power can corrupt the word with their actions, saying that the horrible things they do are “justice.” people in power can do a lot of things and get away with it. but in the end, the ideals of “justice” are something that they can’t control or take away. no matter what they do, they can’t take away what you believe to be the right thing.
that’s why heroes fight, after all. to do the right thing, even if they are all flawed individuals who have their own problems. that’s why they go out there and risk their live to save people, knowing that every time they go out it may be their last. those are the good people in the world, no matter how flawed they are. those are the ones who should dictate what justice means to society as a whole
no one can control what justice means to you, my boy. people can exploit the word and use it for their own uses and advantages, but no one can take it means to you away.
anyway, haha. i’m not entirely sure i answered your question, but i hope that helped you a little, my boy
