Padre Felipe Sainz de Baranda was a giant among Carmelites. He served as Superior General of the Discalced Carmelite Order from 1979-1991, overseeing the growth of the Teresian Carmel in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, as well as guiding the Discalced Carmelite nuns through the difficult task of revising their constitutions to conform to the post-conciliar renewal and reform. He died 26 July 2017 in Burgos, Spain.
