Download from Youtube (the awesome way)
I have spent in the past quite a while looking for a good way to download youtube videos. Not even the "best", just good. Something that will be fast, and give me some quality results with the least amount of frustration possible.
MacTubes isn't too bad, but it has its share of quirks and you have to manually update it so it keeps working (at least I had to a couple of times). All those sites online are alright, but either require applets (damn you java), have iffy quality, or are a minefield of ads and click bait.
And then I was updating homebrew and a new little package caught my eye. It's called Youtube-dl, and it's fantastic.
How fantastic?
Open Terminal.
Install using Homebrew:
brew install youtube-dl
Use from the Terminal:
youtube-dl -URL
Youtube-dl will automatically download what seems to be the best quality video available (haven't tested it out with 1080p however). One line. No ads, clutter, or clicking your way through steps. Straight from the Terminal.
It's been ages since I've downloaded a youtube video, but now I wish I had the need to download some. Even if your'e not familiar with terminal, this is a great excuse to give it a shot.
Edit: Don't break the law. If it's copyrighted, you know, it's copyrighted. I'm not endorsing illegal stuff but this is good stuff to know IMO.
