Legendary illustrator and cartoonist Jack Davis has passed away at the young age of 92. His storied career at #ECcomics began in 1950, contributing to #TalesfromtheCrypt, The #HauntofFear, #FrontlineCombat, #TwoFistedTales, The #VaultofHorror, Piracy, Incredible Science Fiction, #CrimeSuspenstories, #ShockSuspenstories, #TerrorIllustrated, and of course, #MADmagazine. He is most known for his depiction of the #CryptKeeper, taking the more simplistic Al Feldstein version and making him into a tougher, craggier, mangier man with hairy warts, salivating mouth and oversized hands and feet, who usually didn't wear shoes. "I was always a big, big fan of EC. Vault of Horror was the first comic I ever owned, bought for me by my grandmother, who, while all the other girls were reading Wonder Woman, and the boys were reading Superman and Batman, she was reading Tales from the Crypt and al the horror books. Jack was the illustrator on my absolute favorite EC hooe story, "Strictly from Hunger" from Vault of Horror 27. Roger and I had the privilege of meeting Jack a few years ago at the Society of Illustrators. He loved to talk about comics, and was very happy when I told him he was the artist on my favorite story." -Pete
