Uh, I don't know whether you've been on star wars tiktok ever, but wow there is an overwhelming amount of Jedi hate. I literally saw someone say that Barriss was right about the Jedi and they never showed compassion and love. Honestly, this blog keeps me sane hahah
Nah, I don't use Tiktok. I also almost never look for Star Wars content on YouTube either. The bad takes are too wild xD
Okay so I've heard it said that making Barriss the terrorist was incredibly tone-deaf and harmful considering how she was coded (her headdress looking like a hijab), and while I didn't spot it myself I can't disagree.
That being said, that's from a real-world standpoint. From an in-universe standpoint, Barriss Fell. Although it's not super clear when you watch the arc, when you just take a second to think it becomes glaringly obvious that she did.
She:
told Letta to feed her own husband nanodroids (her husband who loved the Jedi and worked super hard to work at the Temple)
blew up said husband, killing Clones and Jedi in the blast
strangled her accomplice to death
framed Ahsoka
killed more Clones to make it look like Ahsoka was escaping
pretended to help Ahsoka when she was working her hardest to make her look guilty
told Anakin Ventress' red lightsabers suited her
tried to kill Anakin right in the Temple and dueled him in front of children
didn't come forward herself even though she knew Ahsoka might get executed for her actions
All of this, to finally accuse the Jedi of war-mongering. Even if making her the villain was insensitive and even gross, in-universe she was the bad guy. Where's the love in all the deaths she caused? Where's the idealism in framing someone else for your grand liberating terrorist act? I'd give a lot more thought to her criticism of the Republic if she'd come forward immediately and made her own statement. She didn't. She hid like a coward, which is the way of the Dark Side, not the way of political activism. You're not a martyr desperately fighting for truth when you try to get your innocent childhood friend condemned in your stead. "The Jedi have become villains in this war." Yeah, by breaking their backs trying to save civilians and Clones and failing more and more often, as opposed to freaking bombing said civilians and Clones?? I'm sorry, but no.
So from my point of view, listening to her is like listening to Krell and Dooku call the Jedi lost, arrogant and whatever. Like, yeah, the Republic is hypocritical and uses slaves and should definitely change, but I'd be far more invested in your cause if you weren't actively slaughtering and enslaving people on a daily basis yourself. Ugh. (That's why I can't when people tell me Dooku had a point. I love Dooku, but he's the absolute worst. He was working for Palpatine before Qui-Gon even died, making him partly guilty for Naboo, and he sent the Galaxy on the path of war, only to then criticize the Jedi for standing up to him. Like, dude. Kriff off.)
So anyway that's my two cents on it for now. That last comment is very sweet of you ❤️ I get mostly anon asks and I always wonder if they're from the same person... If that's the case, you make my day too :D
