Basilica Farm + Flea Vendor Spotlight: Tess of The Pantry
Who are you? Who has influenced you?
Tess Diamond, "The Pantry"/Old Field Farm. I wanted to provide a place for very small scale producers (like me) to sell special products that might not otherwise get exposure. I love the idea having a a little low-key shop that can carry small batch home-made goodies to barter amongst friends. Friends make the best stuff. Old Field Farm had a small "Bootleg Buying Club" in the city for a few Holiday seasons- The Pantry is an expanded version of that.
What is your business? What is your day like? What do you produce?
I manage Old Field Farm. My day and my responsibilities vary dramatically during the season. Sometimes it's planting, sometimes it's preserving the harvest, sometimes it's filling orders, sometimes it's P.R., its always a lot of organization and a lot if list- making
Where did you come from? Where are you now?
I came from the sunny West. I now live in the intermittently sunny hills of Western Massachusetts
Why work the way you do? Why the Hudson valley?
Continuing to forge a connection to our food is critical as is developing community and comrades around this notion- both are thriving in the Hudson Valley.
