IBM was the first company in the world to cross the psychological and physical threshold of 1 nanometer. The engineers demonstrated the technology for manufacturing 0.7-nanometer chips based on a fundamentally new three-dimensional architecture. The main goal is to overcome the physical limitations of modern microelectronics.
The dimensions are impressive: 100 billion transistors fit on a chip the size of a human fingernail. This is twice as dense as the 2-nanometer solutions IBM showed 5 years ago, in 2021.
