Tommy would have never given the NHL a single thought, he wasn’t exactly a sports guy and he wasn’t the right man to cover such a heated story like hockey. However, the story involved two words, one name, and one very interesting person (at least to Tommy), Ilya Rozanov. Even he had to admit the hockey player had talent—and that was why he had jumped at opportunity to write a piece on the Russian. Of course, he had some more….selfish reasons, but those don’t matter in the grand scheme of things.
His plan was to establish a sort of trust with the hockey player because he knew how tough it could be to break through Ilya’s walls. That being said, that meant he had to attend the end of the year NHL awards to do so. Tommy wanted the piece to be extensive, an off season and season long sort of extensive. There was the possibility that only half of what he collected would be used on the final product, but he had always been an all for nothing or nothing at all type of person.
So, Tommy dressed up in a suit—not a tux because unfortunately the event was far too last minute to rent—dirty blond curls actually styled for once, and phone already recording a voice note because he had never been the best at remembering conversations despite his career. Needless to say, finding Ilya amongst the chaos was a horribly taxing experience, but it did pay off in the end. He had found the man walking out of the bathroom and approached him, hand out intending on a handshake “Ilya—“ he starts, thinking going on a first name basis was a horrible idea a little too late. “Mr. Rozanov, I was wondering if I could have a moment of your time?” God, he was horrible at communicating for being a journalist.
