Test swatches for my last manicure. Gives me a chance to see what designs/colors I like, and which ones sound like a good idea in theory but don't quite work in reality

Test swatch #1 - notes

I spent more time gathering the supplies from assorted craft stuff bolt holes around my house than it took to both quilt and embroider my 12”x8” test swatch. (30x20 cm)

The directions are perfectly fine for the project at hand. I’d assembled a few swatches assuming the first “just follow the directions” swatch would have issues.

What I’d been worried about was where the ugly embroidery back was going to end up, and why no one mentioned covering it. It winds up in the batting which has already been covered by the back of the quilt. So, Nope, it's fine, I’ve just never embroidered on an assembled quilt.

Add in that there are 3 kinds of stitches in the entire thing. Back stitch for the stars and words, french knot or cross stitch for the milky way, and a running stitch for the quilted part.

This is a time intensive project, but not complex. (watch, that phrase is going to bite me later.)

I also think I’m going to need to add some quilting that isn't in the pattern - my batting needs to be tacked together every four inches (10 cm) and my pattern has gaps where that isn't the case. I’ll probably quilt around the constellations.
