Aubrey: If he breaks his vow of chastity, I'll break his Andraste.

((Oops I had feels before bed. Thus this happened. Pure fluff, under a cut because of length.))

                Smiling softly, Aubrey examined her lover, her future husband, by the warm and flickering light of the fire as he snored. It wasn’t loud snoring. But definite snoring. Flames, Eeyore probably snored louder than Varric did. But though Hawke was sated, warm, and content, she had drifted awake sometime during the night, and looked up from her beloved Dwarf’s shoulder to watch him sleep as the fire died.

                The young woman was careful and quiet as she eased out of bed to put another log on the fire. Blue eyes glanced back towards the bed, watching for signs of waking from its occupant, before deft hands lowered the wood in the tongs onto the dying source of warmth. Surreptitious pokes to the embers ensured the log caught fire, and Aubrey sighed softly in relief before turning to look at Varric once more.

                Her bed really was too big for her. Laughably so. But it looked just a bit less intimidating with a sturdy merchant prince sprawled in it. His snores along with the crackle of the fire were soothing, his glorious chest bare above the sheets and moving with each breath. The light played over his face, deepening the shadows cast by a shrewd and heavy brow and lightening the curves of strong cheekbones and jaw. The light dusting of stubble seemed darker in this light, but nothing like the beards of all the other Dwarves Aubrey had come across.

                Her bard was one-of-a-kind.

                And miraculously hers.

                A fond, delighted smile crossed the small, muscular woman, and she crossed her arms under bare breasts as she savoured the sight before her. She saw new things, new sides to him, every day. Varric would always be dashing. He was always cocky and had a smirk ready when out in public. But in private, in this room, Hawke got to see the vulnerability, the man behind the storyteller. She was able to see now the relaxed face of sleep. A strong arm still spread over the bed to be her pillow, the conventional pillow tossed aside earlier in her writhing under his lips and hands. His lips were curved slightly in a content smile, and blond hair glinted in the firelight as the soft strands spread over a pillow.

                A sight to keep close to her heart for as long as she lived.

                Also one Aubrey couldn’t resist. She shivered a little and slid back into bed, not surprised when warm arms wrapped around the ginger to pull her tight against the solid mass of the bed’s male occupant. “Enjoy the view, my lady love?” he murmured huskily. Amber eyes glinted beneath half-open lids with a broader smile, which grew broader still at the soft kiss his strong love brushed to his lips.

                “Well you know it.”

                “It’s the chest hair,” he teased.

                Aubrey smiled and brushed back her mane of hair before resting her hand against Varric’s jaw, examining his face which was both sleepy and aware at the same time. “It’s the man in my bed. The man I love, looking so content.”

                Oh. Oh, that simply begged for him to show his lady love just how content he was in her—their—bed, especially with his freckled vixen in it.

Golden Voice | Aubrey and Varric

With Varric's necklace at a Dwarven jeweller's, Leandra's grocery list filled with Bodahn's aid--he insisted it was entirely his job, but Aubrey had a few things she wanted to add to the list--Hawke parted ways with her manservant. Bodahn returned to the estate, probably telling Leandra exactly where Aubrey was going, and the petite ginger headed out of Hightown towards Lowtown.

The incident in the Gallows with Vengeance had worried the rogue. Not only had Varric been burned by the melted golden chain, but his throat was damaged, and there had been heart problems. Aubrey trusted Anders' healing skills, she just...wanted to check on Varric. He could be a stubborn fool of a Dwarf.

She ordered two pints of the Hanged Man's finest, slapped down the requisite money, and carted them upstairs, sidestepping a few drunks stumbling off to their rooms and ignoring their bids for her 'company'.
