I just want to say...no matter what happens in these midterms, I am SO pleased with the shift that’s taking place in our country. From voter turnout to canvassing to social media, it’s blown me away. I have been an active and informed voter + voting advocate since 2008, but after 2016, I truly had begun to lose hope in the future of the United States and lose faith in the democratic process. But now the tides are turning. In Texas, we have had a record voter turnout, one that rivals the presidential election - for a MIDTERM. This is true for several other states as well. Moreover, states that have been historically redder than red have races that are extremely close. Even if the “blue wave” doesn’t cover all the areas we had hoped, it has still made an impact. People from all parties are FED UP with this nonsense and are ready to take the necessary steps to bring decency, compassion, and common sense back into our legislature. These midterms have shown that Trump’s United States is NOT a direct reflection of the people’s United States; not anymore. I have not felt this hopeful or inspired since I cast my first ballot in 2008 for Barack Obama, and the words of his campaign have been very prevalent in my thoughts the last few weeks: yes we can.
