Kup x Reader
• “He’s ancient. Like older than our entire civilization. He was probably old when the dinosaurs were still stomping around,” your friend whispers, leaning close and their breath smells like the caramel, mocha iced monstrosity that they’re drinking. Huffing out a breath, you pointedly push them away. And you steal a glance at the big Cybertronian you’d hired as a bodyguard while you drag your tea closer. Toying with the straw, you study him as he lingers against a wall, looking relaxed and almost sleepy. But you know he’s watching everything. Like he watches you.
• You’re staring at him and his jaw works, cygar bobbing. And he’s aware of your every move as he surveys for threats in the shop you’d gone into, but everything is quiet. Shoulders rolling, he crosses his arms over his chassis and tries to pretend that being mass displaced doesn’t bother him. Just like he’s trying to ignore that you and your friend are talking about him. “He’s experienced,” you whisper back and he knows you think he can’t hear you. Amused, he keeps his expression carefully blank as he watches another customer walk in.
• “Wait, are you and him-?” They begin sounding so scandalized your face heats and you shrug, sipping at your drink. Though, truthfully the gruff mech barely talks to you. Acts completely professional to your utter disappointment. You’re not even sure if he likes you or just tolerates you since you’re paying him. ‘We’re not,’ you finally say because there’s a good possibility that they will immediately go gossip on their socials that you’re banging your alien bodyguard. And they raise their brows as you glance over at Kup and find him not even looking at you.
• Dragging on his cygar, he rumbles and tracks a man in a jacket too heavy for the weather. It’s been raining, but no other humans are dressed like that. The man glances his way and he removes his cygar to study it. Before returning his attention to the man looking everywhere except at you, his plating ruffles and that sense of something being off strengthens. Sees the man look up at the menu board as he slips a hand into his jacket. Hears you laugh at something your friend says, smiling as the man turns and he catches a glint of metal. And he’s shoving away from the wall.
• Hearing your name, you look up and there’s a guy close to your table, his expression intent as he smiles to make your skin prickle even as you automatically smile back. And he’s pulling something out of an inner pocket of his jacket right before a big hand grabs the back of his head and his face smacks down on your table. Your bodyguard growling, cygar bobbing as he pins the guy and drags his hand out of the pocket. Dropping the phone the guy has been trying to pull out and then patting him down as the poor guy sputters and swears. “Kup, let him go,” you hiss, mortified and he meets your eyes, but doesn’t let the guy go until he’s done checking him and satisfied that he’s not armed, the poor guy cursing and struggling the whole time. Lip bleeding as he stumbles sideways, the guy snatches up his phone and storms off. No longer wanting a selfie with you not that you blame him. ‘I told you hiring one of them was going to be a PR nightmare,’ your friend whispers as you stare up at the bot. Who’s completely unrepentant. People are staring. Phones are out and recording. “What was that?” You demand, flustered and horrified at the same time. And he leans down into your space, reaching to grab the side of your chair and drag it back into place at the table like you weigh nothing. ‘My job,’ he growls, far too close and you can smell him, alien and metallic as your heart races.
