okay i got the silly idea of mashing up two things that i really love, and honestly i checked and there exists something as the mercenarius, but they're put into the roles of UT characters
BUT my version in an UnderTale AU that sort of would mix UT characters with TF2 lore [not forgetting UT lore tho]
they could either become mercenaries as they escaped from the underground - or the story is that they were never in the underground and they kinda do form the Red team ig
well, time to go into the roles! starting with one that actually sparked the whole idea for me
W.D.Gaster as medic - well, experimenting, scientists pushing the limits of life and death - they both hae the brilliant but unsettling vibe
also with how gasters can have multiple magic hands it seems to me as something really userful during surgeries n shit
Alphys as Engineer - even thou some of you might think she would be a great medic, no i dont think so - Alphys has canonically built Mettaton, shes experimenting with things, not people - she would rely on sentries and machines just like engineer does
both of them are builders first, not really fighters [and lets just imagine Alphys reading manga or listening to anime songs during a fight]
Mettaton as Demoman - you ask me why? demoman is loud, explosive and dramatic - they both love putting on a show in different ways and just imagine mettaton dancing while exploding things [ofc i need to think about his alcochol addidction but we'll get to that eventually]
Undyne as Soldier - pure aggression and determination, theyre loud, charging headfirst into battles, never backing down - and with how's patriorit Soldier is, it paints a picture of how Undyne's normally the head of royal quards
Papyrus as Heavy - you might now thing 'bush why, hes so scrawny' well he is the great papyrus, and i believe that with magic he could hold heavy machinery
plus, Heavy's a big strong guy who's soft-hearted - He looks intimidating but is gentle, protective and caring [especially for his sisters, and i can just imagine him being like that with sans] Papyrus is also loud and confident, but kind - also both of them are wholesome
Grillby as Pyro - well, thats one more for their fire theme
Pyro's conception of reality is different that for other people, and he doesnt really speak in a way people understand, meanwhile Grillby would be a silent, but not unnoticed in a room
Sans as Sniper - lazy, lazy and lazy fuck, they both can sit on the same spot for hours, yet theyre both deadly
theyre calm, patient and precise - also bc they both joke as hell in my opinion and their humor is so dry theyre both upside down
Frisk as Scout - fast, adaptable and also they have the main character energy - also for the 'youngest' energy
Fisk is determined, navigating thou underground many times, theyre mobile, quick and hard to pin down
Chara as Spy - bet you though i forgot about spy for a moment, but no, its freaking Chara - manipulkative, hidden and dangerous lil shits
Spy works from the shadows and CHara operates behind the senes, theyre sneaky and use knives
-also Frisk and Chara as Scout/Spy is in a way a reverence to their family bond but not really? i mean they potentially could be some sort of found-family but not really bc theyre the only humans
CHARACTERS THAT ARENT MERCANARIES: and are high up in power
Asgore as Saxton Hale - big, boss figure? hale is over-the-top strong guy meanwhile asgore kinda has a wet goat energy, but both of them are important figures that fight directly and hold respect
also for the jokes for shirtless Asgore
Toriel as Administrator - well, this mix up is a very big concrast, with how the Administrator is cold and manipulative, while Toriel has the biggest mother energy
they control things from behind the scener and guide people
Asriel as Miss Pauling - well since CHara is alive, why cant he be?
loyal, devoted and honestly, emotional even if they dont rally show it
Pauling works directly under the administtator and from theoried shes either her clone or daughter - and she also works as a bridge dealing with transactions and other work stuff between Hale and Administrator
so with Asriel its kinda like him jumping from parent to parent as theyre divorced lmao
