The sun on the surface felt... different to the sun in the domes. Acht wasn't entirely sure how much of that was due to the sun itself and how much was due to how they'd changed since they last saw light, but it was definitely noticeable. At the very least, they didn't mind it as much anymore.

"When you first came to the surface. What was it like? I feel like I've got a lot of catching up to do." They'd been underground during the whole mass exodus of other octos, and were considerably late to the scene when it came to integrating with the surface world; but at least that meant they had people like Eight and Marina to guide them.

Koa and Sylvia were hanging out together for the afternoon, with it all ending with a trip to an ice cream stand in the park. It had been fun, spending time with a friend for no reason other than they had just felt like it, and Koa had just spaced out for moment...

The other's touch against the large, X-shaped scar on Koa's left tentacle was gentle, almost light enough for her to not have felt it at all... But she had and immediately recoiled in response, nearly dropping her creamsicle as a small, sharp inhale passing her lips before she spoke.

"I-It was from a small accident--" the sakura-pink Inkling stammered, lied as she brought her free hand to rest against her tentacle just below where it covered her ear. The spots on her tentacles were glowing, faintly but still visible in the late afternoon light. "Nothing major, really...!"

"Because of me? Jeez-- Not everyone says that about me."

Considering what his rep is around here in Splatsville, not a lot of people like him! Minus a few inkfish, Sylvia being one of them. Which was rare! Because that small group included his mom-- Buuut, he wouldn't admit that out loud.

"But I'm glad I met you too, Sylvia. You have this aura that keeps me at ease."

"And fighting with a messed up leg sucks big time! Lemme patch it up for you! I'm sure Captain has a first aid kit somewhere in this camp..!!" Yikes, an injured leg is something no one wants to mess with! Then again. Julian was raised by Salmonid conditions... And had the energy of one too. Talk about hardcore...

"Are you sure you just wanna sleep it off, Julian..?"

Koa stopped when an umbrella was suddenly held over her, lowering her armsthat had previously (and rather poorly) shielded her from the downpour of rain she had found herself in. She wasn’t expecting anyone else to be out her either, and to her surprise it was… The girl she had spoken with before?

…Huh. Small world.

“Oh, uh, are you sure?” she asked after a moment. “I’m just on my way home from work, if I could just get to the subway—”

Suddenly, a loud crack of thunder interrupted the firefly squid’s thoughts, causing a startled yelp to escape her. It took her a moment to compose herself, her hearts still threatening to pound out of her chest when she gave Sylvia an awkward nod.

“I-I mean, if that’s really alright with you.” she said, trying to not sound like she had just nearly panicked at the sound of a little thunder. “I… don’t want to impose or anything.”

Tsunaomi's voice is immediately stern, allowing no room for argument. There was no way she would let Julian go back into those kettles, not with his injuries! What kind of Captain would she be, letting her agents get hurt.

She can almost hear Callie and Marie calling her a hypocrite - she'd been the same way, when she was Agent 3. Pushing too hard, too far, and paying the price for it later. Grabbing his arm, she insists, ❛ The kettles aren't as important as your health, Julian. Rest. ❜

Cod, I sound like my mother, she thinks.

This felt awkward. So, so awkward.

Koa hadn't really celebrated Valentie's Day for a long while, and aside from the occasional "friendship chocolate" she hadn't even given Valentine's gifts for an equally long while. But, Sylvia had been a friend to her on more than one occasion, and that alone was enough to earn her something, she thought.

...Even if it was a little late.

With a hesitant knock on Sylvia's front door, she said,

"Uh... Sylvia? It's Koa... I, uh, know it's late, but I have something for you for Valentine's day... Y-Y'know, as friends?"
