BAND OF THE DAY #479 – Ruen Brothers The Ruen Brothers are a force to be reckoned with; on a mission to bring back original rhythm & blues with a vengeance. Having been compared to Roy Orbison, The Everly Brothers and Johnny Cash to name but a few, they are traditional rock’n’roll with pure originality meant for a contemporary audience. Having started by covering original hits, they have remarkable talent in recognising how great songs are written for a band so young (22 & 23 respectively). They channel this understanding into their songs, when combined with an incredible and powerful voice (Henry, lead vocals & guitar) and catchy, gripping guitar riffs (Rupert, backing vocals, guitar & harmonica) it’s no wonder support has come in droves from the likes of BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, 6Music and XFM. Their explanation for their unique sound: Henry – “I think growing up in a town like Scunthorpe, you don’t get influenced by any scenes, you just do what you enjoy and don’t worry about the rest. And I think that’s a healthy sort of upbringing.” Having performed at TGE13 Ruen Brothers will be playing Friday 19th July on the Jazz Cafe Stage at Lovebox

BAND OF THE DAY #474 - Andreya Triana Singer/songwriter Andreya Triana uses her soulful voice to infuse her Rhythm and Blues music with her own unique personality to create something that is both cutting edge and magical. The self-taught Andreya is an avid experimentalist and improvisation in music, this passion influenced her 'Freeflo Sessions' - a hypnotic one-woman-show using a sampler to loop vocals, percussive sounds and beats live. She has toured across the globe and is currently enjoying the Summer festival scene, she is on the cusp of releasing her second album.

Session #3 Marika Hackman

We were delighted to help the talent that is Marika Hackman overcome her fear of heights and film a session with her in the loft. She gave us a fantastic performance and later that evening gave a flawless performance at The Unitarian Church, which was crammed full of people as part of The Great Escape Festival.

BAND OF THE DAY #472 - ROSCIUS This incredible DJ hailing from South-West France and based in London, gives a unique live, improvised performance every time. ROSCIUS aka William Serfass is a music tech wiz as he loops his voice as an instrument throughout his tracks, using a combination of electro and recorded sounds. Whilst the voice is the key component in this project, the drums and keyboard remain important contributors to evoke a crazy tizz of danceable ‘minimal world disco’. The lone DJ has a lot to look forward to with the release of his debut EP later this year. Having performed at TGE13 he will be playing Friday 19th July at Lovebox

BAND OF THE DAY #471 - Ghostpoet Electronic artist Obaro Ejimiwe aka Ghostpoet played The Great Escape back in 2011 when he was first marked for success following the release of his debut album “Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam”. His music is unmistakably unique to his character and voice, a sound so distinct and abstract that his second album “Some Say I So I Say Light”saw him push his talent to its height as he explores mixed, concept sounds. Backed by electronic ethnic beats overlaid with spoken word he barely sings lyrics which are playful, clever and skilled.- It is fair to say that Ghostpoet lives up to his name! Ghostpoet will be playing Saturday 20th July at Lovebox

BAND OF THE DAY #470 - Bipolar Sunshine Bipolar Sunshine aka Adio Marchant is gaining interest, fast. His debut single “Fire” grabbed the attention of Zane Lowe, John Kennedy, John Hillcock, Eddy Temple-Morris and the BBC Introducing to name a few. The Manchurian has got us hooked for more of his beautiful, touching, ethereal songs about bittersweet love. There is a real dreamy quality to his music as he incorporates layers of piano, synths and ethnic backing vocals which build up to create a completely new sound, perfect for modern-day post-modern pop enthusiasts! His music really speaks for itself… Bipolar Sunshine will be playing Thursday 20th June at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen & Saturday 20th July at Lovebox

BAND OF THE DAY #469 - Blek Self-described “dance punk alternative” band Blek is a three person power pop band from Mumbai. They are are one of the most buzzing acts on the Indian indie circuit and featured in the January 2013 issue of Rolling Stone India as one of its Top 5 Artists to Watch Out For this year. With quick beats, heavy guitar riffs and rock’n’roll vocals that hit you over and over again forcing you to band your head and tap your heels to, for these guys it’s clear that they are all about the music!

BAND OF THE DAY #468 - Washington Irving Fast-paced indie post-modern punk band Washington Irving are driven by traditional Scottish folk roots as they blend beautiful melodies with hard, raw vocals; atop heavy layers of interesting, tight musical instruments. Not only do they bring the traditional Celtic storytelling but they also experiment, successfully channeling country guitar riffs that juxtapose with the Scottish voice that shapes the songs, bringing music to your ears. Any fans of Biffy Clyro and The Pogues are sure to be impressed by Washington Irving’s energy and talent!
