When you go, your footprints will fill with grass. Moss shall cover your tombstone, and as the sun rises, green shall spread over all, in all its shades and hues. This verdigris will overtake your swords and your coins and your battlements and, try as you might, all you hold dear will succumb to it. Your skin, your bones. Your virtue. The Green Knight (2021)

Chiaroscuro (kjaro'sku:ro) lit. "light-dark," chiaroscuro is the Renaissance composition style where lightness and darkness are used in stark, frequently startling contrast. Popularized by Caravaggio (1571-1610) to such an extent that in later Baroque art it became known as caravaggism or, alternatively, tenebrism, the style immediately draws the eye to the main subject, who is often highlighted by just one light source.
Tenebrism is characterized by a flat, black background, while chiaroscuro usually builds some depth into a darkened, but still slightly detectable, field. Edges are softened, and the subject seems to melt into the surrounding shadows—a more intense version of Leonardo da Vinci's (1452-1519) smokier, dreamier sfumato technique. (x, x, x, x)
