Hiddles Birthday Week 2021: Day Three ~ Favourite Trait

Cunning Linguist Tom. He is by no means fluent in all of the languages mentioned, (and these are not the only examples). But he always seems to learn at least a few words, so that he can greet people in the language of the countries he visits. As for his knowledge of French and Spanish (which he so modestly downplays), he can actually speak both well enough to conduct interviews in those languages with only minimal help. As a fellow linguist, this makes my heart swell and my admiration soar.

this video (by EU and UNICEF) is from a campaign that tom joined back in 2016 (if i’m not mistaken) , regarding the importance of education especially to those in need. tom is genuinely such an empathic person; he always takes his times to help people in general. that truly shows how a marvellous person he is. he could solely act and that would be it, but he does more than his craft. honestly, i think that’s so sweet of him, especially since he has such a huge platform. he really treats people with kindness <3

What Do You Admire Most About Tom?

Considering the man's damn near perfect, pinning this down to the quality I admire most will be a challenge.

I respect and admire his intellect, both academic and emotional. I love how an interview with him is never boring or recycled. His ability to craft funny stories, answer a question with a thought-provoking idea or articulate his passion for his work is very inspiring. Listening to him talk you feel he's being honest about his answer and that he's genuinely thought it through. Yet despite his intelligence you never feel talked down to, because that's not, in my opinion, who I think Tom is. To me he comes across as sweet, humble and kind, with a positive attitude that I aspire to achieve in myself.

I love his playful and cheeky nature and that he doesn't take himself too seriously. No wonder he's perfect as the God of Mischief.

But what I find most admirable about him is his compassion. I think it's an incredible quality to have and one that I think he has what seems like an endless supply of. I honestly have very little doubt this is one of the many reasons he is such a compelling actor. The video where he talks about what compassion means to him as a person and as an actor shows you the level of dedication he puts into crafting a character, him being willing to "suffer with them" - whether they are the hero or villian, he's willing to understand their stance. It's what makes his performances so sincere and honest.

Wow this was tough. OK, so I cheated slightly - Loki made me 😏, that's the story I'm sticking to anyway. To be honest I could probably sing this wonderful man's praises some more, but this is already stupidly long, by the time I finish it'll be his 41st birthday.
