I like you // I love you // You’re one of my best friends // You’re like family // You are family // I dislike you // I hate you // I’d kill you if I got the chance // I want you to like me // I’m scared of you // I would adopt you // I’d date you // I’d sleep with you // I’d marry you // I’m worried about you // You confuse me // You’re annoying // I pity you // I respect you // I trust you // I feel protective of you // I’d invite you with me to parties // I’d lend you my money // I’d borrow your money // You’re good-looking // I’m suspicious of you // I’m hiding something from you // You’re fun // You’re boring // I’m upset with you // You’re nice // You’re mean // I’m envious of you // You’re smart // You’re stupid // I look up to you // I think you’re a better person than me // I think I’m a better person than you // I want to apologize to you // I wish I’d never met you // I never want to forget you // I want to get to know you better
If Thomas had incapacitated both Évelyne and Delphine with intent to kill, who would Olivier try to save? one of them, or his brother? for the french organisation? for himself?
YIKES.
Honestly, in the moment, the thought process would likely go something like this…
If he leaves Évelyne, who was like an older sister/aunt to him, and Delphine, possibly one of the most important people in his life if for no other reason than his assignment to her, to die, he knows he will be killed before he gets far. If he incapacitates his brother in some potentially fatal way, even kills him, but gets the two woman to safety, he’ll remain alive. He’ll never be able to look his mother, or even his own reflection in the eye again, but he’ll still have his extensive French family and a disposable income that can buy his mother a new house, a new car, dozens of decorations for her classroom, and a long trip to grieve and heal over the loss of her son.
At the end of the day, even if Olivier made nearly all his decisions to join the French because of the desire to provide for his family, there were still some selfish motives. He could’ve dropped out of school and worked a shitty job full-time and been able to help out. Instead, he made enough that he could splurge on himself, too. He met amazing people, acquired a new family, and never worried about how much something cost (within reason) ever again after fulling imbedding himself with the French. So, at the end of the day, between Thomas and the French, he’ll likely choose the French to save his own neck.
A choice between Évelyne and Delphine or Thomas and their mother, however, might lead to a different outcome.
