Day 2. With the Master’s Tournament done with (I placed 17th out of 24 players apparently, due to a bad Strength of Schedule... Oh well. At least I got nominated but did not win Best in Show).
Today was a 3-round 50 points Spell Draft Tournament. I decided to be a real fool and play with the following list:
Thagrosh, Messiah of Everblight
- Archangel
- Seraph
- Nephilim Protector
2x Blighted Nyss Shepherds
2x Blighted Nyss Strider Deathstalkers
1x Forsaken
So yeah... After the draft I wound up with the following spells:
Arcane Bolt, Immolation, Iron Flesh, Quicken and Mosh Pit for Thagrosh, Wraithbane for the Archangel, Bump for the Protector and Far Strike for the Seraph.
Not the best, but it could be cause for some fun range play with the threathranges I could have on the Archangel (shooting d3+1 POW14 blasts 14″ on a beast that could walk 9″).
Round 1 was against the undefeated winner of Master’s Tournament. He played Circle with a Kromac2 list featuring alot of small beasts and two heavies. The scenario was Entreched. Sadly I lost by Scenario 5-1 because the Archangel went down to a pillow-fisted heavy with no trouble at all, and from then it was an uphill struggle to keep in the scenario fight.
Note to self: Seraph apparently has Apparition now. I should probably use it more often in the future...
Round 2 against a Maelok-list. Scenario was Take and Hold. His spell list was full of speed buffs so his heavies could advance 15″ with no problems at all. It was a tightfought game that ended up with a win for me by assassination. At the end of the game there was only 4-5 models still left on the table - the last few rounds neither of us had any beasts. Luckily Thagrosh always gets his full alotment of Fury at the start of each turn thanks to the Athanc.
Note to self: Farrow Bonegrinders have been changed ALOT. DIsmember on a cheap - formerly support - unit was a BIG surprise. Three of them finished a previously undamaged Seraph without any problem due to decent rolling...
Round 3 against another Circle player (my 3rd!). The scenario was Extraction. My opponent had a list quite similar to my 1st round opponent, and sadly the game went more or less the same. I did a big mistake early on letting one of his heavies (wounded but still alive) get within striking distance of the archangel and I had too few models (started with only 9) to actually contend on the scenario which was all too spread out. Lost on Scenario. Had I had one more turn I MIGHT have inched out an assassination. Oh well, perhaps now I will learn not to play with beautiful but ultimately utterly useless models - a pity.
Note to self: Need to remember that alot of warcasters/warlocks in the other factions (none in Legion of Everblight) have decent or at least sometimes useful Fieldmarshal-rules. I had competely forgotten than Kromac2 had Field Marshal: Hyper-Aggressive!
All in all a fun but exhausting weekend.
