Okay but the issue isn’t that we have already been pre-groomed to be interested, the issue is that it’s fucking continuing outside of the show and women are sharing it as what ideal het sex looks like and refusing to acknowledge how they got there
the issue absolutely is that we’ve been pre-groomed to be interested. all of us. the women sharing it are victims too. you can’t force someone to admit they’re wrong if they’ve been conditioned by a society that insists upon the rightness of what they’re doing. ideally every adult woman would be emotionally capable of looking out for this but that’s not a realistic expectation of all adult women in this world, especially not in places where they go for a sense of escapism/indulgence. i absolutely 100000% believe the same things you do about what’s wrong and messed up and sick about the way sex is shown to young women in the world, and i don’t have any neat, easy answers. i just try really hard to give women the benefit of the doubt, by and large, and to be patient with them.

i agree in principle with the origins of this being rooted in male self-interest. i hesitate to vilify women who have lived under this kind of media for so long that they can’t help certain attractions to this type of character. i encourage all people to carefully examine things that bother/excite them that feel either unsafe or strange and contextualize them in the healthiest way possible

tbqh i didn’t even see that u replied until just now...but ya it was like...REALLY difficult to watch to the point i had to stop five minutes into the last episode...very cold and exploitative but also like....to what extent is it the responsibility of documentaries to be this way?? but at the same time....like... to what extent should we stop caring abt journalistic integrity when young girls’ lives are at stake....it’s all fucked up
