Okay, still figuring out how Tumblr actually works, so let’s try something new. It’s been a while since I started working on my Star Wars fanfic A Sith Out of Time, which is part of a larger collection called Shadowborn (it’s a gentle canon divergence with OCs). The cast keeps growing, and my beloved Agent Kallus is starting to play a much bigger role than I expected.
But canon gives us so little to work with regarding his past. Literally just: he’s from Coruscant, a Royal Imperial Academy grad, Yularen’s star pupil, and had that unfortunate run-in with the Partysans on one of his first missions…
I love writing complex characters, and to make him work, I needed to build a proper profile for him. I’ve spent the last few weeks focusing heavily on Kallus and building this headcanon backstory… mostly to explain that desperate need for perfection he had in the early seasons.
Maybe one day I’ll write a full prequel series, but for now, I just have a few random scenes. My favorite concept so far is that Alexsandr wasn’t an only child. That he had an older brother named Konstantin, who was the classic “Golden Child”.
Here is a small snippet:
“You look just like him.”
It was probably meant as a compliment, but the words felt heavy… almost suffocating. On the pristine plaza of the Royal Imperial Academy, his mother was adjusting the plaque Alexsandr had just received for his exceptional scores. He had placed third. 98th percentile.
Alexsandr Kallus stood at perfect attention, absolutely rigid. He wanted to tell his mother about the sleepless nights. About how he kept his eyes open just to break the Academy’s highest records. He wanted to prove to her that he could be just as good as his brother.
‘Look at me,’ he thought. ‘I am here, alive… Right in front of you. He isn't.’
“I… I will make you proud, Mother,” he said instead, his voice steady.
“I know, Konstantin,” she whispered, finally looking at him. But Alexsandr felt like she was looking right through him.
The name hung in the air, suspended in total silence. A cold wave washed over Alexsandr, but he didn’t let it show. He didn’t correct her. He didn’t step away. He simply let the cold drown out the stinging pain.
‘It’s fine,’ he told himself, pushing the hurt aside so it couldn’t touch him. ‘Maybe one day, she will actually be proud of me.’

I've had a number of people ask me if I can preserve betta fish skulls. I have an answer :D!
This was Tallus, my pet betta who died last year. I've attempted betta preservation in the past but I finally got the process right to at least clean the skulls. Once I clean Razz, another one of my betta fish, I'll feel more comfortable potentially adding this to the kinds of pet memorials I offer 💖
