Woke up at 3am and couldn't sleep so I finished this short little thing – a rewrite of the Inquisitor waking up in Haven after first sealing the Breach. Nindarhmen belongs as ever to @sunshinemage. 🧡

Thalon roused slowly, as though wading through a river of grey murk. When at last he opened his eyes, he did not find the familiar canopy of an aravel overhead but the wooden rafters of a small cabin. The events of the previous days came back to him in a dizzying rush – the Conclave, waking up in chains with a swordpoint at his chest, the breach in the sky. The mark on his palm. Agreeing to help in exchange for the promise that Nindarhmen would not be harmed.

Nindarhmen.

His eyes flashed around the cabin, searching for the face of his husband – and found him, seated in the chair at his bedside.

“Ma’halla,” Thalon said, his voice hoarse with disuse. Nin’s eyes sprang open.

“Thalon!” In an instant, Nin had moved from the chair to the bed. Unshed tears of relief welled in his eyes. “Mythal’enaste, you’re awake!”

Their mouths came together in a warm and clinging kiss. Thalon felt the tension bleed out of his body. Whatever else may come, Nindarhmen was safe, and they were together. As their lips parted, Thalon pressed his forehead to his husband’s and stared into those warm golden eyes.

“I feared they would hurt you if I couldn’t do what they wanted.”

Before Nin could speak, the door to the small cabin opened and a scrawny young elf with light brown hair slipped inside carrying a crate. She did not bear the vallaslin of the Dalish, and was dressed in the threadbare garments of a serving girl. As she turned to place the crate down, her eyes swept over the bed where Thalon and Nin sat.

“Oh!” The crate dropped to the floor with a crash. “I-I didn’t know you were awake. I swear! I’d never have intruded.”

“Don’t worry about it,” said Thalon. “Can you tell me–”

The girl dropped to her knees. “I beg your forgiveness and your blessing. I am but a humble servant.”

“My blessing?” Thalon looked to Nin with a bemused smile. Nin said nothing, but his expression was uncharacteristically somber as he regarded the girl.

“I-I don’t mean to presume, my lord,” she hastened to reply, her hazel eyes wide. “It’s only…they say you saved us. The Breach stopped growing, just like the mark on your hand. It’s all anyone has talked about for the last three days.”

Three days. Thalon looked down at his hand where the mark burned a Fade-green slash across his palm. It had been three days, then, since Thalon had regained consciousness in the chantry dungeon beneath Haven, three days since Seeker Pentaghast had marched him in chains past the hateful glares of armed men and women who believed that he had slain their Divine.

They have decided your guilt, the Seeker had told him in a voice that made it clear she shared their sentiment.

Three days ago, Thalon had believed that he would not live to see Nindarhmen or his clan again. Yet now…

“You’re saying…they’re pleased with me?” Thalon asked, unable to believe the words even as they left his mouth.

The girl seemed to shrink inward and wrung her hands, glancing from Thalon to Nin as if seeking encouragement or reassurance. “I’m only saying what I heard. I didn’t mean anything by it.”

“It’s all right, Pip,” Nin told her gently. “There’s no need to be frightened.”

Pip nodded, visibly calming as she rose to her feet. “I’m certain Lady Cassandra would want to know you’ve wakened. She said, ‘At once.’”

“And where is she?” Thalon asked.

“In the chantry, with the Lord Chancellor.” Pip had already scurried halfway out the door. “‘At once,’ she said.” When she was gone, Nindarhmen let his breath out slowly through his nose and looked back at Thalon.

“The people in the village are calling you the Herald of Andraste,” Nin said. “As far as I can tell, they think their prophet saved you from the explosion at the Conclave.”

Nin hesitated. When he spoke again, his voice was barely more than a whisper. “What did happen, Thalon? When I saw the explosion from the village…” Nin laced his fingers with Thalon’s and gave a tight squeeze. “…I thought I had lost you.”

Thalon closed his eyes, shaking his head. “I don’t remember much. I was running and there were…things chasing me. Hideous spider-things. I remember a woman above me, shrouded in golden light. I couldn’t see her face. She reached out her hand…and then everything went dark.”

Nin was silent for a long moment. “So…you have no idea who that woman was? How you survived?”

Thalon looked at his husband and then down again at the mark on his hand. “I…I don’t know.”

Doing this one again, this time for Thalon Lavellan and his husband Nindarhmen Lavellan, who belongs to @sunshinemage.

Sometime during the events of DA:I, Thalon and Nin adopt an elven orphan who they name Atisha. These answers are for a modern AU where Thalon is a surgeon and Nin is an opera singer, and they live together in France.

Who’s the one to wake up the kids: Nin, except on days when he sleeps in after a late show.

Who makes breakfast: Nin! He learned how to cook from his mom and makes the most delicious food. UuU

Who’s the more discipline parent and who’s the more lenient one: Thalon is definitely the more disciplined one. Nin isn't a total pushover but he has been known to let Atisha have treats before dinner and stay up too late watching TV.

Who helps with the science fair: Thalon, especially if it was a biology project. He might have to fight the urge to take over and do the whole project for her. x)

Who does baby talk: Neither of them. When they talk to Atisha, they talk the same way they would to an adult.

Who wakes up for midnight feedings: Atisha is old enough when she's adopted that she doesn't need midnight feedings, but she does wake up with nightmares sometimes and they both get up to comfort her.

Who’s the one who always worries: They both worry in their own ways, but Thalon is definitely the more anxious of the two of them, especially when they first adopt Atisha and bring her home. He spent two weeks baby-proofing the apartment.

Who picks up the kids early from school for some fun: Nin! Mostly because Thalon works long hours and can't usually get time off for fun in the middle of the day.

Who’s the competitive parent: I think they're both a little bit competitive but about different things. Thalon is the one who encourages Atisha to get good grades (see the answer above about the science fair lol) and Nin is the one who encourages her to take part in creative extracurriculars.

Who kisses the ouches: Nin kisses the ouches and Thalon patches them up with Doc McStuffins band-aids.

Who’s the sucker for the puppy eyes: Let's be real, they're both weak for the puppy eyes, but Nin cannot RESIST THEM.

Who makes the “dad jokes”: N I N. His dad joke game is extraordinary, especially his puns. Never challenge Nin to a pun-off. You will lose.

Who embarrasses their kid for fun: Neither. Unless you count the aforementioned puns lol.

Who’s the over-protective one: They are both protective, but Thalon is the worrywart who has contingency plans in place for every worst-case scenario.

Who’s the “take a sweater!” parent: Nin, for sure. Another parenting quirk he picked up from his mom, I think.
