I keep thinking back to spirit ranger!Melusi,
(thanks to @KayeontheMoon now she has a role name haha) and imagine this - with Melusi, there were two kinds of elephant spirits.
Those who passed away when nature called them, and those who were poached and met an untimely death. She dedicated her life to finding the balance in these spirits, and in younger years, she was dead set on killing the poachers that killed the elephants.
It did set some of those anguished spirits free, but some remained to haunt Melusi, insisting that all humans must die. She finally gained some control over her ability to channel with the help of her village's healer (sangoma.) The sangoma was able to help the angry spirits move onto the next realm, and that moment Melusi felt free from the constant headache she had been feeling. But this wasn't the end.
Poachers still killed elephants and she could not abandon the lives that were lost. So from then on, Melusi worked to find ways that stopped poachers from killing elephants for unnecessary resources. She formed her own anti-poaching group, and with the help of peaceful elephant spirits, she developed a tool that bound poachers movements if they dared to sneak closer to sanctuaries. No more of killing the poachers, as she handed them over to the authorities. And when tragic deaths couldn't be prevented, her peaceful spirits helped the poor soul to move on.
Ever since then, she hadn't thought about naming her elephant spirits because her main objective was to have them travel to the next realm. It was unfair of her to keep them here when they could move on. But such stubbornness from larger creatures wasn't to be underestimated - they insisted on staying while she wanted them to move on. So here are three elephants that remained with her. Kholwa (believe,) Mandla (strength/power,) and Philisiwe (they/you healed.)
Mandla has the most resonance with the angry elephant souls. He helps Melusi to channel their sheer power and shoot arrows powerful and far, but at times she loses herself to their fury. Philisiwe is the pacifier, the one who mainly guides the elephant spirits to the next realm. She also helps Melusi to chat with the elephants that lived but became emotionally scarred, and also the humans who were damaged by elephant rampages. Kholwa is the one who is most attune to Melusi’s soul, as the protector and defender of both elephants and humans. She is also the mediator that distributes Mandla’s and Philisiwe’s powers equally to help Melusi gain balance in her soul.
Year 5 is almost end, do you have fun?
