AT&T CONTRIBUTES $50,000 TO MAYOR’S FUND LOS ANGELES TO THANK AND ‘WELCOME HOME’ FORMERLY HOMELESS VETERANS
Los Angeles, California – November 3, 2016 — In honor of Veterans Day, November 11, 2016, AT&T is contributing $50,000 to Mayor’s Fund Los Angeles to support the new online Welcome Home Project for formerly homeless veterans. This contribution is part of a $400,000 investment the company is making to local organizations across the country who serve veterans and active duty military personnel.
“We have made incredible progress over the last two years by housing nearly 7,000 men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform -- but our job is far from done. L.A. still has the highest concentration of homeless veterans in America,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. “That is unacceptable — but not unsolvable. I will fight until every veteran in my city has a safe place to call home. I want to thank AT&T for its tremendous support and generous contribution to the Welcome Home Project, which is making a difference in people’s lives by giving them the essentials they need to rebuild their lives and restore their dignity.”
AT&T’s contribution supports the new online Welcome Home Projectcollecting donations and assembling welcome home baskets – filled with household supplies and necessities – for formerly homeless veterans as they move into housing.
“Our nation’s servicemen and servicewomen have made great sacrifices to protect our country and our freedoms, and it’s an honor to support them,” said Ken McNeely, President, AT&T California. “This contribution is just one way we at AT&T are supporting veterans and expressing our gratitude for their service this Veteran’s Day.”
AT&T’s contributions to Mayor’s Fund Los Angeles and more than a dozen organizations nationwide build on the company’s nearly 100-year commitment to active military personnel, veterans and their families. In addition to the philanthropic contribution announced today, AT&T will host community volunteer events across the country in collaboration with local organizations serving active military personnel, veterans and their families. AT&T also encourages individuals to join in #ThankOurHeroes, a new social media campaign to show appreciation for servicemen and servicewomen. AT&T is encouraging everyone to upload messages, photos and videos showing their gratitude to veterans using #ThankOurHeroes, which AT&T and veterans’ organizations will share throughout the month of November.
