Writing a Stellar Thank You Speech
Most of my clients always end up writing their wedding speeches in the eleventh hour. The rehearsal is done, and it is the eve of the wedding when all is left is a good night's sleep and their speech.
Here are some tips to make sure you don't forget anyone!
1. Thank your vendors first - this is the one that usually gets forgotten easily, but it is important to thank the people that physically made the evening possible: the team that worked hard to make sure everything was perfect according to what you envisioned. (It will also encourage your vendors to finish the evening off with a bang!)
2. Thank everyone from out of town - of course, those who flew from overseas or a different country should be thanked for their long journey, but don't forget those who drove a long distance as well. Think about who took the trip from New York City, or Montreal, because even they took a chunk of time to get there. Tip: For guests who don't speak English, make sure you have a translator on standby to make sure they know your sentiments are heard.
3. Thank those who contributed even a little to the planning process - while your bridal party and family probably did most of the assisting, don't forget to thank those who spent even a couple hours assisting at your bridal shower or contributed to your engagement party. Or that one friend that pulled in a favour so you can have the perfect DJ at the wedding. These people also should be shown gratitude.
4. Thank your family members, on both sides - this goes without saying, but don't only thank your own family, but thank your new in-laws for accepting you into their family.
5. Thank your bridal party - see if you can find a little tidbit on each of them to mention during your speech, to make it a little bit more personal.
6. Finally, thank your new husband/wife - without them, the wedding wouldn't happen!
Speak from the heart and be yourself! The best speeches are always the candid and most heartfelt.
Good luck!
