Two minutes. He’d said two minutes. Then he’d be done. You stared at the clock, waiting for 8:00 pm to turn into 8:02 pm. You jumped up when the 2 hit. “I’m here for my daily fix of hugs and kisses, thank you very much!” You yelled through the house.
Alexander was still working. Shocker there. You peeked into his study. He was busy typing away on the computer, his glasses perched high on his nose. You smiled. He looked like such a bean.
You went into his study. You went up behind his chair and stood there silently. After about three seconds, he said, “Yes, babe?” He didn’t even need to turn around. You sighed. “You’ve been sitting there all day you know,” you whined.
He was typing furiously. “Hold…on…almost…done,” he said between types. “Alexander!” You exclaimed. “Babe, I’m sorry. I can’t stop until I get my plan to my boss,” he began. You scowled and walked out, slamming the door.
You fell onto the couch. Then you suddenly grabbed your coat and went outside. You heard Alex’s voice as you walked down the stairs of your shared Manhattan apartment building.
You were going to come back, of course. Just…not now. You needed air. To calm down before you smashed his computer with a baseball bat. He was always working sometimes it just got too much. You barely spent time with him unless he was sleeping or it was a bank holiday.
You walked around the block a couple times, finally sitting in the local park for a bit. You loved Alexander. And you knew he loved you. After all, you were the one who made him realize he was bisexual. Well, you and that Laurens guy. But that was a whole different story.
Suddenly, your phone rang, breaking your train of thought. You looked at the time. It had been nearly half an hour. It was Alex. “Yes?” You answered. “Come home,” was all he said. Then he hung up. You stared at the phone in confusion but stood up regardless.
When you got in, the lights were off. You looked around then you saw the candles on the dining room table. You laughed softly. You began walking towards Alex, standing across the room. You tripped on the leg of a chair, nearly falling.
“Damnit,” he exclaimed, turning on the light. “Sorry.” You laughed. “What is this?” You asked, smiling. He took your hands in his. “An apology,” he said. The table was set with a shitload of food, including pizza, chips, ice cream, the works. You smiled softly. From Alex, this was basically the equivalent of a diamond ring.
“I have been getting carried away with work, sometimes I don’t pay enough attention to what’s right in front of me,” he began. You sighed. “You didn’t have to do all this,” you said softly. He kissed you lightly on the lips. “Yes. I did,” he whispered. “I love you.” You sighed softly, hesitating.
His smile slowly faltered. “Um…” he began awkwardly. You laughed. “I love you, too, Alex. Don’t be ridiculous to doubt it for a second,” you said. “Now,” he began happily. “Where’s my hugs and kisses?” You smiled. “Gladly,” you replied.
