every year on pride parade weekend i see all the news sites and everyone on instagram posting a million pictures from pride of like. the parades and performers, obviously, but also so so so many shots of the crowds, of people watching the parade, of people talking to their friends and not aware their picture is being taken and i feel like the only person in the world who thinks that putting photos of people at an event for queer people online or on the news without their knowledge could be dangerous. like people in the parade or performers it makes sense that they would be okay with being photographed but of the few prides i've been to i spent all of them turning away from cameras because i don't want to find out one of my parents' friends saw me on the fucking news and told them! i don't want to see myself in the background of your instagram photodump! i think people are way too comfortable assuming that anyone who's able to be at pride is completely out of the closet and safe and willing to be in pictures or videos and that's a dangerous assumption to make. people could die.

#text #i went to pride in 2022 & 2023 & 2024 and each time i spent the next day looking through all the news articles about it to make sure i #wasnt in any pictures.#last time i went to pride i was one of four people in a mask in a crowd of tens of thousands of people #it was a sea of rainbows and glitter and i have never felt so out of place. idk. i feel like i dont have a lot in common with people who #dont think about that sort of thing ever. like people genuinely dont consider that someone might be closeted and it's insane!#in general i feel like people dont consider anyone elses needs at pride really. have u noticed how fucking inaccessible it is.#and how fucking WHITE it is oh my god. one of the whitest states in the country and the queer community is NOT DIFFERENT #idk. it's a fuck ton of white able bodied liberals raised in liberal families and at some point it's like. obviously it's not insurmountab #*insurmountable. like the 'raised in liberal family' thing i mean #but with sooo much peace and love talking to people who grew up in wokeville all the time can be SO DRAINING #friends were joking abt how their parents gave them 'if u end up with a boy or a girl thats ok just as long as ur happy :)' talks like Ok #does anyone remember the 'well now theyll let people marry children and dogs' talk when they legalized gay marriage Oh now IM bringing #the vibe down. <- did not actually say any of that but. idk. do u get what im trying to say #like as a disabled person and as someone who wasnt raised in a liberal family sometimes it feels like i have very little in common with #other queer people around me. and that would probably change if i hung out with older queer people but. waves hand. i dont leave #my house. Genuinely cannot imagine how isolating it feels to not be white and be in that sort of space too. it's just #Like man i don't know. on one hand it is such a privilege that we have pride and that so many people go and that it's accepted enough to be #on the news. but on the other hand i really feel like people esp younger ppl forget homophobia and transphobia... exist. almost.#like people act like i said something crazy when i say my family are homophobic. same with them being antivaxxers #like i need u to understand that not only is there like. discrimination. but there are a lot of people who believe this stuff and some of u #live with them. and if you put bigots' queer family members in your fucking photodumps i'm gonna lose it #i hope this makes sense i think abt it every year #While im here though my first pride there was a woman in a shirt saying 'free mom hugs' and i got a hug from her and then i #cried myself to sleep every night for the next week. lol!#anyway.#personal
