#I found one that said there are brain wide changes in virtually all of the 11 cortical regions analyszed #aka the differences in an autistic brain compared to a neurotypical brain are larger than original thought #then i see this line about how this research will help accelerate development of disease altering therapies #oh this is where my red flag light starts flickering #so I google the lead author #this is now a hate letter to Dr Daniel Geschwind #he is a Fancy distinguished professor at UCLA #and he guided the development of the autism genetic resource exchange founded by cure autism now #the program is now part of Autism speaks #it also only talks about autism as a disease #now I'm no doctor but I don't think autism is a disease like scientifically speaking #now Dr G is funded to do research on African American families with autism #nooo #anyway i love researching autism #but as an autistic person #ewwww #like so much of research on autism is about finding a cure #that is problematic #like i just want to understand it #i want science to back up my lived experiences of it #but nooo #anyway . . .
