Douglas and What He Represents

Okay. So. Douglas is this character in the new Birdbox film and frankly he had his points but I would like to think he represents a new character trope which... Put blankly? Is pretty much That White Guy.

Because Douglas, he might know some things? But Douglas isn't a surviver. He's a critic. He is a snob, and all his motivation is about what is best boils down to protecting himself. He doesn't want to share resources, blames others, and almost tries to rule by ... Essentially shouting?

He is selfish, derogatory, and I'm thankful. He derides the pregnant women as resource drains even though he doesn't seem to bring much to the table. He ungratefully smears good peoples names when they sacrifice for him, never wants to leave the store, and ultimately.... He would fail as a leader. He is uncreative, unkind, and a coward.

And /I am thankful/.

Because hopefully this is the beginning of a new character trope I am dubbing That White Guy, which is all the shouty guys who think they know their shit but are proven wrong because its about compassion and cooperation, not cruelty and cowardice.
