It’s been an exciting week since the release of Marshall Allen’s New Dawn. He broke two Guinness World Records, becoming both the oldest person to release a debut album (at 100 years and 265 days) and the oldest person to release an album of new material.

I had a late morning radio show on CJUM-FM in 1978, two hours up to the noon news for jazz. One morning I played side one of Pharoah Sanders' Love in Us All. About five minutes in, my studio phone rang...

"This music," a male caller began, "I can't work with this music on."

Ok, I said, then you have two choices, you can take a break from work and just listen, or you can change to another station and come back in 20 minutes. He seemed a little miffed by my answer and hung up.

The side ended, I spun the next disc, and the phone rang again. Same guy. "I took your advice and listened," he said, quite excited, "That was INCREDIBLE! Where can I buy this album?"

Sadly, I had to tell him it was already out of print.
