coralin book i headcanon time!! 

as book i is the least eventful of all the books, there... isn’t too-too much to go on. coralin pretty much takes things as they come, adjusts to askr, and comes out of her shell. she tries applying video game logic to certain things to make better sense of them, and to... her surprise it works. 

most of her development comes from adjusting to her role as the new summoner of askr and falling into routine. 

upon being summoned, coralin was actually in the middle of walking home from work with her friend. the flash of bright light enveloping her caused her to shield her eyes, and when the light dimmed... well. her friend wasn’t there anymore. and this definitely wasn’t the pathway home. instead, she found herself in a bunch of ruins with anna. while confused by the situation, she followed along without much complaint because she’d rather have not been cleaved in two by an axe in the event this WASN’T some wild fever dream. it... took another explanation in the safety of askr castle for the situation to sink in fully.

her starter hero was virion, not takumi.

SHARENA OVERWHELMED HER VERY QUICKLY. DEAR L O R D. there was just so much going on and so much fighting and watching people die that by the time alfonse, anna, and coralin reached sharena she was just... done. she wanted to go home, she didn’t know what was happening, and all these strangers were speaking to her like she was some kind of great legendary figure... by the time they got to the castle she was practically in tears from the overload. and then demanded the aforementioned explanation one more time because how the FUCK do you expect someone to retain information when it’s being thrown at them that quickly?

in book i, coralin was at her happiest... well, after the shock passed. she found a purpose-- a drive. people were looking up to her for guidance and saw her as someone special: a great hero. while she definitely felt the anxiety of such a lofty position, especially early on, she still wanted to rise up to the challenge and be the person they thought she could be. 

that said... her earlier days were also nerve-wracking anxiety fests, and the first time she ever officially tried to summon a hero as The Summoner was an embarrassing feat that took several tries because her hands kept shaking, she’d drop and shatter summoning orbs, or she’d miss the relic. it was definitely performance anxiety, and after the first success she had a much easier time.

upon realizing they could access different askrs, and in extension, other versions of the order, coralin’s curiosity was piqued. after realizing most other summoners were from earth, she took pains to make friends with them and exchange tips. earth kids gotta stick together, after all!

things were... good, for a while. the rescue missions helped coralin adjust to life in askr, especially with the trio’s help... though alfonse was distant, and coralin worried she’d done something to offend. however, she could never work up the courage to talk to him about it. all in all, she fell into a routine. slowly opened up to the world around her, and searched for a place within it. upon rescuing clive from the tempest, they struck up a bond. 

with regards to zacharias, she was... skeptical at best that they would actually succeed in finding him. so many worlds had just been revealed to her... and they themselves proved to be vast. narrowing down one person who’d all but fanished off the face of the earth felt like a fool’s challenge... and she just assumed he was dead. that’s how it would likely be if this were earth, anyways. she wasn’t about to voice this opinion to three people who sorely missed a friend, though, and went along with their attempts to track him down without complaint. there were worlds to be saved in the process, after all!

her opinion on the zacharias situation changed drastically after veronica’s direct attempt on her life. while she was too flustered and afraid to pay much attention to her rescuer’s voice, she recalled his name. and that he asked him to take care of alfonse and sharena. however, a desire to learn to fight had taken priority for the summoner, and she began training with a dagger to be less of a liability on the field. 

once bruno suddenly started taking interest in zacharias, however, she... honestly suspected it might be him. how would some rando mage know anything about a lost friend of the trio’s, and... even if he did, how would he know zacharias had anything to do with them to begin with? it all felt... too convenient. and if there was one thing coralin marsh knew well, it was that convenience in a video game meant there was a connection. maybe it was a stretch to apply that logic here, she thought, and put the theory on the backburner... until alfonse had bruno cornered, and the emblian prince was spitting desperate venom to try and goad alfonse into dealing the final blow, denying his ties to zacharias with all he could. 

so... she voiced the theory aloud, figuring the worst that could happen was that she was wrong and looked like an idiot. and as we all know, well... she wasn’t. bruno turned out to indeed be zacharias.

by the end of book i, around one year has passed. coralin has begun carrying around an iron dagger, and by book i’s end she will have upgraded to steel. book ii begins a couple of months later, and that’s where her character begins changing dynamically.

The fact that Jade's actually there at the Vega house, making pizza, living up to her lie. Beck's not going to know if you didn't spend the evening with Tori, unless Tori is holding you to your promise to hang out or she'll tell Beck you were lying. Either way, works for me.

Sorry, I know Jade's being a jerk about giving Tori the wrong dough measurements, but I'm just picturing her reading the recipe to Tori and Tori hesitantly mixing, questioning the amounts but keeping her mouth shut, afraid that if she pushed her Jade would stop bonding with helping her.

Man, this scene is really uncomfortable. Sikowitz said they didn't have to say yes to everything, I think he would've understood a pair of underage high schoolers in a pretty dodgy-looking neighborhood at night refusing to strip down to their underwear.

Awww, I'm kinda digging this Beckjin. Binjin? Van Oliver?

Scrolling through the TV guide and bickering over what to watch? This is like, the most domestic Jori we've ever gotten. My heart swells.
