Rex looked out over the scenery, these rolling hills, this planet he didn’t quite remember the name of, and he thought.

It was so easy to simply let his mind wander when in a place like this. There were no shots being fired, no fires to put out, no war, at least for the time being. It was just him. Just him and the slightly damp grass he dug his fingers into where he sat. Just him and the double suns of the system that warmed every inch of exposed skin when he tipped his face towards their light. Just him and the light breeze that rustled the leaves of the trees behind him and carried the sweet smell of flowers he loved but couldn't name.

If there ever was an end to the war, he hoped it looked something like this. And he wished all his brothers would be there to see it.
