Tips for living a realistically positive life?
Remember these three words: Everything is temporary.
Don’t diet unless you have a positive feeling towards it. There’s no point in depriving yourself of what you enjoy.
Cry when you need to.
Recognize that not every dress or skirt needs to be skin-tight and crotch-length.
Clean your room, or wherever you spend the most time. When you’re done you’ll feel so much better.
Open the windows on nice days.
Open the windows when it storms.
Put away your electronics and pet your dog or cat. They don’t live as long as you do.
Later in life, no one will care what you did during high school (with the exception of college admission requirements). Your boss isn’t going to care that you were the quarterback, or that you were the lead in the musical. Let it go.
Read.
Never pass up the opportunity to pick wildflowers.
Smile at the sky.
Learn to appropriate what you wear and how you act. You can’t wear ballet flats on a hike, and you can’t make sex jokes at a daycare center.
Meditate. It doesn’t have to be the Buddhist way, but close your eyes and breathe every once in a while.
Remember that you’re only human. You make mistakes.
Never push yourself to do more than you know you can handle.
Appreciate the areas you see where there are weeds and wild vines. Sometimes the most beautiful things are left undisturbed.
Drink from wild mountain streams.
Never say no to ice cream socials.
Remember that it’s okay to not like everyone. But you should always try to treat everyone with respect.
Sleep in sometimes. Don’t wash your face and stay in your pajamas all day.
Go out to dinner by yourself with no makeup and a good book.
Wear funky makeup. You make that blue lipstick look GOOD.
Lay in a field and look for shapes in the clouds. Why did you ever stop?
Never be afraid to ask questions.
Wear sunscreen, no matter your skin tone. No one likes being a lobster, and you don’t want sun damage later in life.
Wear perfume or cologne.
Buy friends and family presents just because.
Volunteer.
Buy cute underwear, even if you’re the only one who’s going to see it.
Ask advice from someone older than you.
Dabble in other religions besides your own, if you have one. If not, then learn tolerance. Everyone has a right to their own beliefs.
Pick your battles.
Never be afraid to stand up for yourself. You have feelings. You have thoughts. You matter.
Find out what your favorite things are. They give you a sense of identity.
Your body is yours. Get tattoos. Shave your head. Bleach your eyebrows. Pierce your tongue. Whatever makes you feel like you, do it.
Don’t be ashamed of your body.
Listen to music.
Splurge on things you want. Do you want an ice cream cake? You deserve it. Do you want 12 lipsticks? They’re all flattering, so why not.
Help others.
Write songs. Burn them. Blow the ashes to the wind. Start over. Let your creative juices flow.
Kiss people. On the cheek, the forehead, the tummy, etc. Kisses are intimate and passionate, and everyone needs one at least once.
Be mature when the time is right.
Laugh wholeheartedly. Snort. Cry. Gasp for air. Remember the feeling.
Choose something new to study: Astronomy, Hinduism, grilling. There are books, websites, and movies about nearly everything.
Visit the same location each season. Notice what changes, and what doesn’t.
Remember that you are more than just a face, a hairstyle, or a skin color.
Follow fashion trends.
Refuse to follow fashion trends.
Smile at random strangers.
You don’t have to live in a villa on the beach or in a penthouse in NYC to be happy and feel fulfilled. You can do something as simple as donate your old wardrobe to the Goodwill.
Fall in love. With places, people, and yourself.
