Oh, thank you for saying such kind things! As for the modeling, it’s for a local art studio and they advertised that they were looking for models and I jumped at the call. One day I hope to achieve Muse status, but till then, I’m a model for hire!

50. In Secret kiss

They have been shut in a service closet in the U.S Capitol for the last twenty minutes, and Lucy’s claustrophobia is starting to play up. It is May 16, 1918, and Congress is about to pass the Sedition Act, which “forbade the use of disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language about the United States government, its flag, or its armed forces or that caused others to view the American government or its institutions with contempt” (aka basically the World War I Patriot Act), and Rittenhouse wants to do their Rittenhouse thing to it. You know, the usual. They might also be after President Wilson, there’s a Spanish influenza outbreak, and frankly, Lucy and Flynn have a lot better things to do than be in this closet. But with three Rittenhouse agents standing fifteen feet away, and their only route to safety involving going right past them, they are… stuck.

Lucy takes slow breaths, in through the nose, out through the mouth, reminding herself that if she can take twenty minutes in here, she can wait until (hopefully not long), the Rittenhouse goons wander off to bribe some senator and they get the hell out of here. She is pressed against Flynn’s chest by necessity, since the other option is cramming into one of the shelves, and she’s definitely not doing that. At least focusing on the fact of how close they are is giving her a reason not to think about the rest of it, and she rests both hands on his shoulders. Looks up at him, searching for comfort, even if they can’t actually talk.

Flynn glances down at her. There isn’t much light, only a brief crack through the hinges, but it casts his face in sharply geometric shadows. There is a wry, rueful look on his face that says he knows it’s hard (Lucy wonders how much she wrote about this in the journal, though she thinks Flynn might also know that honestly, given the way she reacted when they first ran in here). He puts an arm around her waist, then stops, as if he might be crowding her more.

Frankly, if she’s crowded by anything, Lucy would rather it be him. She nods for him to keep it there, as they at least don’t need words in the field, and he does, holding her solidly against him. She presses her face into his chest, counting breaths. God, haven’t they moved yet? This act is going to pass by a depressingly huge margin, something like 298 to 1. Rittenhouse doesn’t really need to work too hard on swinging votes.

Another few minutes dribble by. Lucy would really like to get out of here. But looking at Flynn helps, and she tries to keep doing that, even as she feels cold sweat running unpleasantly down her back. He shifts to get his other arm free, and takes a better hold on her. Then as she realizes in horror that she’s about to sneeze, this closet is not exactly soundproof, and one of the agents has been looking around as if he thought he heard something –

It’s not clear if Flynn actually meant to kiss her, or he was just helpfully muffling the sneeze. In either event, he leans forward and catches her mouth with his, Lucy is so startled that she doesn’t actually follow through (apparently it works the same as with hiccups), and his mouth is wide and soft and gentle. It tastes like mint toothpaste, rather incongruously, though there’s no reason why it shouldn’t. It makes her stretch up onto her toes and open her lips and close her eyes, at least for a few moments. Neither of them quite pull away.

After a long moment, belatedly, Flynn  does. The color on his cheeks is visible even in the bad light, and Lucy can tell by the heat in hers that they must be the same. He glances out as they hear footsteps, and whispers, “They’re gone.”

They step out of the closet entirely like two people who absolutely did not just accidentally kiss in secret. Flynn straightens his jacket and checks his gun. Lucy takes a very deep breath. Then, for good measure, another.

Business as usual.

Time to go.

That plus sized model you asked about is named Bree Kish! She does all kinds of work for various plus size clothing stores/lines (I know her bc I used to work at Lane Bryant)

That arrangement of the song was an early arrangement used in early west end shows but they changed it to the way better version everyone knows and loves bc it's WAY BETTER

At first I thought maybe it had been redone as part of the revival, but I didn’t know it was a SUPER early version! It’s ... weird, and it’s a shame because it makes it sound more like Macavity’s song. It’s too sultry for them! They just think crime is fun! Plus no double cartwheel :(
