Elvis talks Christmas plays in grade school, his mother & father, moving into the Audubon house, his weight, and favorite foods. March 1956.
Interviewer: "Did you study any dramatics in high school?"
Elvis: "No I didn't. Except when I was maybe in 5th or 6th grade and was in a few Christmas plays. Well my mother, especially my mother, she was always worried about me getting sick so I have to let her know cause she's not in real good health anyway and if she worries too much it might not be good for her, so I make it a habit to call everyday."
Interviewer: "You just got them a new house in Memphis?"
Elvis: "Yes, they move on Tuesday."
Interviewer: "What kind of house is it?"
Elvis: " It's just uh, a rice type seven room house. Three bedrooms, a den, playroom. It's a pretty nice place."
Interviewer: "Yeah I imagine, you getting a lot of new furniture too?"
Elvis: "Yes, we uh, we have to have to fill seven rooms to have quite a bit of furniture."
Interviewer: "What does your father do now?"
Elvis: "He takes care of all my business in other words he's much more important to me at home than he is on a job because I have so much stuff piled up on me when I'm gone and if he wasn't there to help me... he takes care of everything, you know, any business that pops up, any insurance...daddy takes care of it."
Interviewer: "Do you got a lot of jackets and suits?"
Elvis: "I had quite a few. Well, I uh, actually in the past year I've outgrown most of things I've had."
Interviewer: "Yeah, really? You still growing?"
Elvis: "When I started singing, I was gaining more weight. When I started singing I weighed 153lbs I weigh 184lbs now."
Interviewer: "You haven't grown up..."
Elvis: "No, I haven't gotten any taller but I mean, you know, putting on a little more weight."
Interviewer: "What's your favorite food?"
Elvis: "I like uh, pork chops, country ham, baked potatoes, I like that."
Interviewer: "Is that stuff you had when you were a kid I imagine?"
Elvis: "Yeah I was raised up on it. Red-eye gravy..."
Interviewer: "That's red eyed peas..."
Elvis: "No. Red-eye gravy is, comes from, ham, bacon, stuff like that."
Interviewer: "What kind of dessert?"
Elvis: "I like uh, well now I eat jello. Fruit jello I like."
Interviewer: "Do you drink any, Elvis?"
Interviewer: "Not at all?"
