She sat above them. Listening to the meeting between Silco and Marcus. It was boring. Part of her felt like falling asleep. Another part wanted to stay alert. She didn't like him. Didn't trust him. He was an enforcer and Silco swore he had him under control. But would if he snapped? Jinx knew Silco didn't need her to protect him. But she wouldn't leave it up to Sevika of all people.

She stayed quiet, muting her sighs of boredom. It wasn't until Marcus left that she dropped down on desk in front of Silco. Finally, the sigh she was holding back left her lips. It was heavy and exaggerated.

"How can you stand talking to that guy?" A question Jinx could ask about several people Silco allowed into his office. She had asked before and been given answers that she only half listened to. "He's so boring. He'd probably be a lot happier if he just had fun." Her idea of fun was a bit different than a lot of other people. "He wants to kill you, you know?"

he  releases  a  deep  breath  through  his  nose,  careful  not  to  look  in  the  other  man's  direction  as  he  clasps  his  hands  behind  his  back.  his  jaw  tightens  slightly  as  he  glances  in  the  direction  of  some  of  the  other  council  members,  ensuring  their  attention  is  elsewhere  before  stepping  away.  he  knew  he  didn't  have  to  give  any  indication  of  where  he  was  going,  the  other  would  follow.  as  jayce  leaves  the  room  completely,  his  composure  drops,  lips  dipped  in  a  frown  as  he  continues  his  trek  down  the  hall.  evenings  like  this  were  the  reminders  he's  sure  he  needed  to  second  guess  whatever  he  had  going  with  the  eye  of  zaun.  thoughts  should  remain  business  oriented,  their  focus  on  how  to  help  the  people  of  zaun  rather  than  turning  any  of  this  into  a  game.

silco's  focus  was  on  zaun,  jayce  knew  that,  and  it  made  sense  that  he'd  ultimately  cross  the  line  of  asking  for  something  that  even  on  the  council,  he  couldn't  provide.  as  much  as  he  may  want  to,  there  were  some  things  outside  of  his  reach.  even  when  carefully  posed  in  a  professional  setting  ...  and  accentuated  with  vulgar  persuasion.  in  a  room  full  of  people.  jayce  hated  when  the  other  man  resorted  to  that.

jayce  doesn't  wait  to  see  if  the  other  begins  trailing  behind  him,  instead  making  his  way  to  his  office  and  roughly  tossing  the  door  open  and  clicking  it  shut  behind  him.  he  doesn't  lock,  merely  makes  his  way  to  his  desk,  fingers  drumming  lightly  on  the  surface  before  he  turns  to  lean  against  it.  hands  curl  around  the  edge  of  the  wood  as  he  waits  for  the  other  to  arrive.

when  the  door  swings  open,  jayce  immediately  crosses  his  arms  over  his  chest  but  remains  at  his  desk.  a  careful  look  of  ease  and  conviction,  knowing  he  had  to  stay  his  ground.  “    you  know  know  i  can't  promise  that,    ”   he  says  before  silco  can  begin  whatever  was  about  to  come  out  of  his  distracting  mouth. his tone isn't annoyed, or displeased. it's merely resigned.

There's no mix of feelings worse than the stomach-turning cocktail of guilt and terror. Jinx is intimately familiar with how they make your mind and body seize up in fear, leaving you shaking and scattered, and more than anything else, desperate to escape them, even with the sick sensations coiling in your gut and your mind screaming that you'll never, ever be free.

It was worse when she was a kid. Nowadays, it's - well, she wouldn't say it's not a problem, but she's got a good thing going for her, and she's gotten by well enough up 'til now, so what's the big deal? People say she's crazy, but hey - better crazy than lazy. So she's "unstable" - who cares? Not Jinx. Besides, they won't be the ones laughing when they end up on the other end of the barrel of her gun!

...But it'd be a lie to claim she didn't hate them. The breakdowns, the voices, the blame - blah blah blah, it's always the same. The same pain. Too much to take, making her feel smaller than she's ever been... yet the torment she's feeling now - something about it is different today than it's ever been before.

She doesn't cry out or scream. While normally she'd be caught up in a frenzy of movement, like she wants to hide or run away, right now Jinx stands as still as a statue, frozen in place without making the slightest of sounds. She feels - exposed. Shocked, without knowing why. As if she's teetering on the edge of a cliff and terrified to fall... and even when she's approached, she doesn't move; only her eyes blinking erratically in an attempt to hold back tears.

Silco stands before her. But it feels like she's not really seeing him at all. And in the end... all she can manage to say is his name.

VANDER'S LITTLE GATEWAY WAS once his place at The Last Drop, but it is no longer a place where he could find PEACE... in fact, there could never be peace, not with Silco still out there BREATHING and determined to get what he wants, even if it meant RISKING THE LIVES of their people... the streets filled with shimmer, the talk of monstrous creations roaming the streets. The issues this venomous addiction has caused... was this really the way to get what they always wanted ? Was this going to be the answer to all their problems ? Or would this lead to the FALLING of Zaun, once and for all ? Once, Silco asked Vander to join him in his cause, like old times ? Right ? And while a part of Vander wanted to say yes... the two of them going hand in hand together once again- this just wasn't the way to do it, not with shimmer... and not when the HAUNTING faces of those who were killed flashed before his eyes- who could be next ? Powder ? Vi ? So many kids lost their parents that day... and too many parents lost their children. Reckless, they were reckless... something had went amiss with the way they had went... and all those talks of FREEDOM FOR ZAUN just became a shattered dream for THE HOUND OF THE UNDERGROUND.

When was the last time the two ONCE UPON A TIME LOVERS stood face to face with one another ? How many years has it been ? Why did his heart still skip beats for someone who is supposed to be his enemy ? Watching Silco with suspicious eyes, fist curling, and uncurling by his side, a weighty scoff spills past twin flesh, eyes narrowed dangerously. " Suppose it just ain't meant to be, is it now ? " Heart clenches at his own words, refusing to show a pained expression. He can't show it- he won't. You wanted me to join your cause... but shimmer ain't the answer to our problems, Silco. Is this how you want to achieve our DREAMS ? Do you really think you'll get Zaun's freedom this way ? " Vander spats out angrily, turning on his heels, not once does his eyes leave Silco- he's not willing to turn away or take that chance. " You've become desperate... that's what's disappointing. Stooping this low- how many more lives have to die, huh ?! How many more children ? Parents ? Your solution isn't the way I can tell yeh that. " Hands raised into a fist, teeth clenched tightly together- Vander has once promised to never fight again, gave that all up- but Silco has left him no choice, the HOUND couldn't sit back anymore- " Leave the children out of this, it's between you and me... it always has been. "

he wraps the bandage around his torn knuckles, eyes focused on the task at hand rather than to the door as it's slammed open. sal doesn't flinch, merely ripping the material with this t e e t h and smoothing it out. only as he's flexing his hand does he turn around to face the other. “ i said i'd handle it, ” he says, his tone matter-of-fact, an attempt at not sounding annoyed. while he understood the concept of proving himself, he thought he'd done that by now. but evidently he still wasn't trusted. “ you should hear back by nightfall. you can believe me or not, but they'll show up, ” sal says, no doubt in his tone. there were a lot of things you could say about him, but f a i l u r e had never been an option for him. he knew he'd succeeded in his intimidation, and he'd be surprised if the drop wasn't completed by noon.

brokering a peace with silco had not been a decision that they had not made lightly, hours of discussion going behind the choice and countless doubts that it'd be accepted but in the end, they had to take that leap of faith and just hope that silco would hear them out, not only for his sake but for the sake of everyone else down in zaun. swamped with paperwork and discussions and unable to break away from the council, viktor had taken it upon himself to deliver the news to silco.

he should feel happy to see his home become independent and free of its oppressors and yet, he can't shake the anxiousness of it being left in his hands. the very man that stood in front of him, where he and jayce had met previously. the discussion had started civil enough, informing him of the unanimous vote for zaun's independence, however tensions quickly rose as he brought up jinx's imprisonment, tones shifting from pleasant to stern and irritated, frustration building.

❝ she has to answer for ⏤ ❞ his words cut off suddenly as the distance between them closes, breath caught in his throat as fingers wrap around his throat, amber eyes locking onto mismatched hues that filled his vision. he can hear the soft but rapid beat of his heart in his own ears, rethinking his words to hopefully prevent this from escalating more. the last thing he wanted was to get into a physical altercation with the man. ❝ if not jinx ... ❞ he breathes out, words slow and careful, like treading on broken glass. ❝ then who do you suggest? ❞

desperate times calls for desperate measures. it's not something he decides lightly, but what other choice does he have? he's exhausted every other possible way to crack the hexcore and prevent the plants from decaying into ash. singed is the last person he'd ever wanted to turn to and yet, it was the only option he had left. therefore he'd set aside his pride and made the plunge into slippery waters, though he doesn't come out of it empty handed. pink vial held firmly in one hand, he'd almost been at the door to leave when it opened in front of him, exit blocked by another.

his hand quickly moves behind his back, hiding his dirty little secret from whomever had just stepped in, light billowing in from behind making it hard to discern facial features. singed, on the other hand, had no trouble telling who the new arrival was, the baron's name ringing out across the room in greeting. silco? his heart dropped into his stomach, name instantly recognised. he shouldn't be surprised to learn that the two would partner up. a match made in hell, he thinks. the zaunite can't move forward so he backs up a careful step, and then another, attempting to move out of the others way so he can leave, gaze kept low and lips pressed firmly closed. he has no interest in getting caught up in whatever this was.

She's not usually Silco's guard dog. He knows she's much too impatient for that role. Too trigger happy. He usually settles for keeping her as a secret weapon, or a spy of sorts, but when Sevika's got other business to take care of and the stakes are too high to leave it up to the other lackeys, Jinx usually takes up her mantle in a pinch. She's not incapable of role, after all, her methods are just less... ideal. A tad more more inclined to incapacitate someone faster than Sevika, which doesn't always help Silco's end goal.

Still, this time she feels like he is being a little too patient with the other party. They seemed a bit too inclined to throw around threats for her liking. Yet, she notes his hand ever so slightly raised to the side of him, indicating to her that's it's not quite time to take the heads off of these people, and she subtly let's her hand fall back down to her side- but her eyes are trained on them, keen on making sure they know that if shit hits the fan, she'll make sure it is in Silco's favor.

And maybe that really was enough to do the trick, because it isn't long before Silco's monologued his way into what he wanted from them and they skitter off thinking they've had something of a victory, too. She scoffs as she watches them walk away. All bark and no bite. How the hell have they survived the Undercity this long?

"You're in an awful generous mood today," she comments, pulling out her gun to rest idly in her hand, "they were all but threatenin' to put your head on a platter and you just let them rattle on. I feel like about the time they started puffing their chest, I would've-" she pauses to lift her gun and train it on one of their slowly vanishing figures, one eye shut as she eyes them before she let's out an audible 'pop' from her lips, "gave 'em a message of my own."
