Romance in the City
Genesis (not the Bible vers)
So I rewatched s1 epis El Valero and it got me thinking. This hybrid was contained. Things were looking good for the Adelphi. But when Jesse demanded to know 'who knew' the answers he wanted, all the sudden Genesis wasn't content going back. I think maybe he* was reminded of why he chose Jesse as his host (not sure if that's the right word), of why he escaped in the first place. He also shredded the coffee can with the force he used to propel himself back into Jesse. He literally destroyed his vessel/prison and hasn't attempted to flee Jesse on his own since. The two Adelphi may be sad (and angry - see The Saint) about not being able to take Genesis back with them but clearly that's not what their pseudo-kid wanted.

I went to see wicked and the bodyguard on wednesday.
1. Seeing wicked reminded me just how much I loved the musical, and why I fell in love with theatre in the first place - an incredible show and I would see it hundreds of times if I had the money. Watching this also made me realise how much being a fan of this as a teenager had influenced my personal lighting style, and it was nice seeing it a second time where I was able to pick out more of the technical aspects such as projection (and finding myself questioning just what was lighting and what was projection).
The show starred Kerry Ellis who has a fantastic voice, although I'm afraid Rachel Tucker still wins the "best Elphaba" competition for me.
2. Whilst the story of The Bodyguard was pretty terrible, the technical elements of the show were absolutely incredible. All of the wings and borders were automated (plus extra borders that came out of the stage floor) which were used to create box formations at several points. These worked alongside a strip of the stage that was actually a stage lift to create some amazing effects. For example- at one point the main character walks from stage left to stage right, whilst this piece of stage is being lowered, the borders and wings are following her as she walks to create the illusion of a box following her wherever she went. There was also a lot of projection in the show, and mixed with the automation this worked in a way that made the show seem very cinematic which I loved. There was also a MASSIVE house truck which rotated to take us from the outside to a completed inside. On top of this the lighting was interesting, it went from a very generic and tungsten feel during the scenes to a very x factor like style of lighting - tonnes of sharpies, beams, blinders, etc.
The sound design was also very good even from the upper circle, with small speakers lining the walls to play soundscapes in the background of scenes. This personally made me feel more a part of the scenes than as if I was just watching the show in a theatre.
Oh and the show doesn't start traditionally, it literally begins with a gunshot and a sudden blackout - no announcement. I guarantee at least three quarters of the audience needed to change their underwear after that. Not to forget the very good music of the late Whitney Houston, and the fantastic voice of Alexandra Burke. Apparrently the set is being completely re - designed for the U.K. tour, since as it stands it would not be possible to tour the production around the U.K.
