until the end, see how it shines
why did we never run, before our chance was gone ?
The Apocrypha (A Facsimile Of The Nonesuch Press Edition Of 1924), slipcase, University Books Inc., 1962 (engravings by Stephen Gooden)
Highlights from the Protoevangelion of James:
Mary's father is so ashamed of shooting blanks that he banishes himself to the desert; his wife prays for deliverance, so an angel tells him to go back home and he gets her pregnant
When Mary is born, her mother Anne considers her holy and so hires a bunch of virgins to carry her around so that her feet never touch dirt
When she's three, she's given to the Temple, where she lives until she's twelve, dancing for God and being fed by an angel
When she's twelve, the authorities realize they have to get rid of her before she menstruates and profanes the Temple. So they send word that every widowed guy / single man should show up and God will pick one of them to be her husband
God picks Joseph by making a dove appear out of the end of a staff; Jospeph is like 40 and doesn't want to take her because this is weird, but the High Priest tells him God will kill him if he doesn't, so he says fine, I guess
She's 12 and Joseph is super not into this, so he dumps her at his house and says, "I'll see you later, I guess," and leaves her there for 4 years
In that time the Temple realizes they need a virgin to weave the veil that separates the Holy of Holies from the outer courtyard, so Mary gets assigned to do that
When she's 16, Joseph has to report to Bethlehem with his whole household to register for taxes, so he returns to retrieve her. But she's pregnant, so he freaks out until an angel comes to him in a dream and tells him God did it
The Temple authorities find out about this and order him and Mary to show up and defend themselves; they then pass some obscure purity ritual so, eh, I guess God really did do this
On the way to Bethlehem, Mary goes into labor and so they go into a cave. It is filled with glowing magic light and Jesus just materializes out of her womb as a baby and starts suckling
Joseph gets a woman named Salome to assist Mary, and she doesn't believe Mary just gave birth, so she sticks her hand up her vagina, and and it gets burned to a crisp
But Mary says for her to touch Jesus with it, and she does, and it is instantly healed
Herod finds out about Jesus from the Magi and decides to kill all the babies his age to keep him from overthrowing him.
Mary's cousin Elizabeth, the wife of the High Priest, who has baby John the Baptist who is Jesus's same age, panicks and runs into the mountains to hide, and a mountain opens up and lets her hide inside it
When they can't find John and the High Priest won't tell Herod where he is, Herod just murders him in the Temple, where his blood turns to stone when it hits the altar
Got tagged in the last line game by @the-apocrypha a few days ago. I wanted to share something that wasn't shared on my author thread on sadman discord before (join us if you aren't there and want to!), so here we are. Have a soft Hob by the awesome @amielot .
What is he doing? Well, he's blushed because that's NSFH (not safe for horse) 👀.
No pressure tag for @amielot @seiya-starsniper @seadeepspaceontheside @dragonnan and whoever wants to play (are you reading this? Consider you tagged!) 💖
OC-TOBER DAY 10: DREAM
This piece was a really quick and easy one even though I had to redesign a character on the fly for it haha. I’m really happy with it though, I think she turned out looking really cool ^__^
This character is from my fantasy story ‘The Apocrypha’ which is an indie game developed by my OC Keyo in his own story! I’m never gonna develop it myself because I have no clue how so I gave it to my OC to do whatever he wants :]
Mary Elizabeth Groom (1903- 1958), 'Ecclesiasticus (aka The Book of Sirach), ''The Apocrypha'', 1929
John Nash (1893-1977), 'Judith'. ''The Apocrypha'', 1929 "The book tells the biblical story of Judith (Judith 13, 1-10). Here Judith kills Holofernes, General of the Assyrian King Nabucodonosor. While leading the siege of Bethulia, Holofernes, charmed by Judith, attends a banquet, where, having had too much to drink, he falls asleep and Judith severs his head. The latter then gives the head to her maid for her to show to her fellow citizens, thus saving her city. This story is the subject of many depictions in painting and sculpture. This is a rare biblical illustration by John Nash." (Source)
