I'm absolutely fascinated by your animal crossing story and really wanna help find the culprit. I spent a few minutes on the wiki trying to narrow down supects- I'm suspecting Ellie or Eloise, both female elephants from GC era. Eloise is light colored like margie, and looks more similar, but Ellie has the same personality making her interactions more similar to margie. There's also opal, who has similar eyes. All the get are male. Have you tried looking at the wiki page for elephant villagers?

My true sin remains accusing that poor elephant of crimes that were not her own. I’ve gone through the GC villagers quite a few times now and I still don’t know exactly who it was that wronged me. Visually, they were either white or yellow, and they were female, and they lived on the right side of town. Not a lot to go on! I think I may have written it down in a journal entry somewhere, I know I put Angus on blast for continually repainting my roof, but it is in fact a mystery orz
I’m starting to think maybe it took place in WW, I didn’t play that one as much and I definitely remember I was sprinting to bed to save. WHO IS THE THIEF?? The world may never know. Literally!
