Perhaps not everyone knows that in 1834, Edgar Allen Poe decided to set one of his stories in Venice: "The Assignation", originally published as "The Visionary", a Gothic romance about a mysterious young man saving a baby from a Venetian canal, who then meets a tragic - possibly poisoned - end with the child's mother. 

A text that reveals his surprising knowledge of the lagoon city. Through the protagonist's voice, Poe takes us on a gondola ride through the streets and canals. A love story steeped, however, in the dark and disturbing atmospheres that only he knew how to create.
