if you don't think about or question how a character acts the way they act, what they do, what the situation means for them, or how the narrative functions with them, do you really even like the art you're engaging with?
#sorry i am still thinking about the myriad of people across fandoms that are just like !!!! look at how shitty this is#and then they be like oh but especially when X happened or they did Y#and the ever present this other character who is so much better would never have done that#okay but... are you actually thinking through the narrative?#the context?#the characterisation?#the character arcs?#their differing backgrounds and situations and upbringings and levels of power#???#what about their personalities and belief systems?#what is the narrative doing or trying to say?#what is their relationship to other people at hand?#like!!! i'm so frustrated you guys and i can't stop thinking about it#it happens over and over and over and i am so tired#i hate it even more when the ships are the things driving and enforcing these narrowed takes#i don't care what ship you ship you are actually making me actively hate your ship#and i previously liked it or didn't really have an opinion#you are destroying analysis and literacy and engagement by being like this i'm so???
