my spotify account with fanmixes is here.
my current active fanfics:
Kicking It In - Kevin's POV during TSC and TGR. Currently sort of canon compliant but will deviate towards the end of TGR (it's KevJean). This requires reading my completed fic Waiting You Out first.
Clocked You - a fic that follows Kevin and Andrew after Riko smashes his hand as Kevin settles into the Foxes. It follows canon until Neil as Neil never becomes romantic with Andrew.
Be a Trojan - a fic in which Kevin and Jean leave the Nest before they sign on Freshman year and escape to play with the Trojans.
The Acquisition of Kevin Day - a fic that follows Kevin from just before Kayleigh's death up until sometime post Jean's arrival in Evermore.

I don't particularly like certain characters and ships but if I actually post about it they will be tagged appropriately and probably include a read more.
There’s actually a few things here that majorly dropped childhood mortality. In no particular order these include…
Vaccines (yay!)
Pasteurization
Implementing and enforcing food quality and sanitation standards. Did you know White Castle was called as such because their gimmic was that they continually cleaned and bleached their stores inside and out to prevent food poisoning.
The invention of antibiotics! The first sulfa drugs dropped in the 1930s-40s
Widespread access and distribution of enriched food products! Enriched flour did a lot to prevent malnutrition, and it’s how Wonderbread got its name!
We got a hell of a lot better with medical care for sick and premature infants. The first incubators for premature babies were actually used as something of a sideshow attraction at Coney Island! It was the only way the doctor who invented them could get funding to keep them running because no one thought it would work. It showed a lot of people that really premature babies could survive with the right treatment and eventually was adopted by hospitals.
The green revolution in agriculture that prevented around a billion people from starving to death
More recently it’s been widespread access to mosquito nets and medication to poorer and rural areas
Digital products and services keep getting worse. In the new report Breaking Free: Pathways to a fair technological future, the Norwegian Consumer Council has delved into enshittification and how to resist it. The report shows how this phenomenon affects both consumers and society at large, but that it is possible to turn the tide. Read more on forbrukerradet.no/breakingfree
hbo max blocks screenshots even when I use the snipping tool AND firefox AND ublock which is a fucking first. i will never understand streaming services blocking the ability to take screenshots thats literally free advertising for your show right there. HOW THE HELL IS SOMEBODY GONNA PIRATE YOUR SHOW THROUGH SCREENSHOTS. JACKASS
somewhere out there is a guy who meticulously takes screenshots of every individual frame of his favorite tv shows and then painstakingly etches each one onto a roll of film which he puts into his old timey projector and recreates the footage as a silent film with his own lavishly hand-lettered dialogue cards and original score that he plays on his upright piano and charges audiences one shiny penny a play. at last, big media has finally outsmarted ol' Zachary Zoetrope
PSA for everyone who doesn't know, explained simply
this is NOT because of blocking screenshots, it's because of HOW streaming sites use your computer's hardware to optimise performance, which means the thing rendering the video and the thing capturing your screen aren't the SAME thing. so they can't talk together.
you can fix this by going to your browser settings, searching for "hardware acceleration", and turning that off.
my wife (ao3) has suddenly disappeared (is fucking down?????) and i have been left in despair and misery (reloaded the tab several times before i realized it was real) as to where she could be and when she shall return (waiting for ao3 to figure out whats wrong)
the article i just read about lou alcott (louisa may alcott, author of little women) was wild because it was literally like "he preferred being called lou and his whole family always called him that. he never identified with girlhood or liked feminine things and said he had a boy's spirit and longed to be a boy and believed he was a man's soul put into a woman's body. he loved dressing up as a man and passing for a man and being flirted with by people who thought he was a man. he called himself a gentleman and a father to his adopted children and his own father once lamented sending "his only son" to war when he enlisted in the army as a nurse.
...calling her a trans man is reductive and misses the point of her work though lol she was obviously a cis woman who was speaking figuratively because women in the 1800s weren't allowed to wear pants!"
Peoples biggest defense is always ‘we don’t know how they would identify in this day’ which IS true but I find it interesting how they have little problem ‘justifying’ Lou’s feelings by calling him a cis lesbian or a nonbinary person or a tomboy.
There’s also so much terf rhetoric towards this subject of Lou’s identity that I’m almost certain it’s just discrimination…
“She was confused”
“She didn’t understand the world properly”
“She was trying to escape oppression”
I don’t know why people are so convinced trans men/mascs existing is anti-feminist but it’s not, people literally parrot misogynistic points just to take away their identity and that should say enough.
We don’t know how he would have identified today, however; we DO know how he preferred being referred to in his daily life and how he saw himself in the past. I think he is owed that much.
I saw a tiktok the other day where somebody laid out all of the points the first half of this post, and proceeded to use she/her pronouns and then defend that usage with a disclaimer basically saying "I acknowledge [ridiculous amount of evidence to Lou being a trans man who just didn't have the language to articulate that identity], but she didn't directly say it in the exact words we'd use today, so I will not refer to her with any other pronouns. She used Lou with friends and family and I am neither, so I'm not going to use that name to refer to her, either"
someone in the comments remarked, "this is the trans equivalent of "they were just close friends" for lesbians", and I think that really succinctly explains how I feel about it all. like. I'm gonna wager a massive guess and say hey. maybe the reason Lou was only comfortable being referred to as Lou by friends and family, was because those were the only accepting people???? wild thought.
i will never not go insane over the way that dawn and spike treated buffy after she was brought back to life...just being so gentle and careful with her, taking care of her and tending to the wounds on her hands...ohhh they care about her so much 😭😭😭 like the way their first instinct is to make sure buffy is okay and help her if she isnt, not focusing on the fact that shes back
All these industries with shortages of workers and they can’t figure out why.
Im proposing the hypothesis that the reason we don’t have enough doctors/pilots/bus drivers/etc is that maybe, just maybe, having your entire industry function as a lifelong hazing ritual isn’t the best recruiting strategy.
Doctors are subject to 8 years of post-secondary education and are forced to work 48 hour shifts.
Pilots and other transportation workers have absurd hours of service requirements that start your rest period as “the moment you shut the vehicle down” and can be as short as 9 hours in some cases.
Railroad workers have to be available on-call 6 days a week and be ready within two hours notice. They don’t get sick time.
Retail workers have to keep a veneer of politeness against any and all abuse or they can be fired.
Truck drivers get paid by mileage and rarely see pay for shipper or receiver delays.
Work should not be designed to make you a miserable burnout and yet here we are.
Also, what kind of treatment are you getting from a doctor on hour 48 of a shift??? We know that sleep deprivation impairs memory, focus, decision-making, and pretty much everything your brain does. Having a sleep deprived doctor or nurse is a clear health and safety hazard and is a recipe for life-threatening mistakes, yet it’s just normal.
