Music Review: The Coming by Busta Rhymes

The Coming is a genuine contender for one of my favorite jazz rap albums. Generally, I find jazz rap to be very repetitive, especially when you listen to a whole album. The Coming is repetitive, but it’s good enough to listen to similar ideas again and again. Busta’s flow is very unique, but it had to be developed, which did happen by Extinction Level Event: The Final World Front the next year. Even at the time, Busta’s flow was one of the best flows in the jazz rap game. It’s production is a little bit rough around the edges, which gives it a certain bounce that is somewhat lacking in other jazz rap records. I feel like Busta put too much emphasis on teasing ELE. Especially in the existence of “End of The World (Outro),” Which stopped “The Finish Line” from being the end of the album. This is not ideal, in my opinion, because “The Finish Line” was a good outro both in its carpe diem message and sound.
