A/N: Hot Take of 1-12 of Detective Event has unintended side effects on my psyche.
In which I call bullshit on Lucifer saying the feather isn’t his. I have more thoughts on this but that’s for a different time. *Subtly sets the tin foil hat aside*
Lucifer lingered in the classroom after he had sent Mammon, Satan, and you back to the House of Lamentation. In hindsight he wondered of he had reacted too strongly. It wouldn’t bode well for him if he had made his intentions too obvious.
However, it seemed the carefully placed lie had quickly settled in their hearts. ‘That’s not one of my feathers’ He had said. The words had felt like lead that he had ripped out of his throat.
Alone now, he stood in the classroom holding the familiar feather in confusion and nervousness. Why does Diavolo have this....? Lucifer contemplated silently to himself, while feeling his stomach begin to churn. Diavolo was always... eccentric. It was a part of his personality, he always had a fixation with things not relevant to the Devildom.
But then there was his fixation with you. Often during meetings he would question and inquire about your whereabouts. How is the human? How are they handling the Devildom? Has there been any incidents? At first Lucifer would say that Diavolo’s concern was warranted, as the mere thought of a human staying at the house of Lamentation seemed to be a sheer impossibility.
Surely the human would get hurt.
Surely the human would struggle.
Surely something would happen to the human.
But nothing truly disastrous had happened.
Yet.
Lucifer’s gaze flickered over to the cover of the book the feather had bookmarked. What was Diavolo up to... He neatly placed the feather back and exhaled slowly as he moved the book out of sight.
The Past was The Past.
Time rolls forward unchanging. Without mercy. He did what he could for the survival of he and his brothers. There are things that he can never get back, lives he will never get to see once again. While he was an angel once, he was never to be again.
To like someone, and to trust someone were two very different personal relations. He had grown to enjoy Diavolo’s company, but couldn’t help but wonder if his goals were truly so simplistic. It felt like something else was at work here...
Lucifer turned to leave the classroom but hesitated as he glanced back at the desk that held Diavolo’s book, which in turn held a feather of a different time.
Of a different person.
As the thoughts simmered in the back of his mind he couldn’t stop the lingering sense of something out of place. Of something that needed his attention immediately.
I was happy to finally see the real Haru. In the manga her character is underplayed, eclipsed by the others… in the last few chapters she shines brighter.
