Belphegor - The Devil's Son
Last Upload for the day and woo I should have done this one the day I did the piece. This was finished all the way back on December 25th, 2018! To explain a bit this was a huge deal for me as I’ve never done a piece of this caliber. I know there are things that could be fixed and corrected but as a whole it is the best piece in my dA Gallery For me the neck down feels a bit to flat not that I look at it and compare it to the face and it’s perhaps that I rushed through that but as my first lineless piece I feel it’s a pretty damn good attempt.
Jasper Roane Ryder is Calhoun Ryder’s firstborn son, and second oldest child, with his older sister Muirenn Ryder following in her father's footsteps same as her younger brother. Despite their mother living on the island Jasper and Renn were both raised by Arronax and Ryder mostly, this was due to a choice made by Diedre, Ryder, and Arronax. This is not to say Diedre is a neglectful or poor mother figure, but it was decided the children would have a more stable life with Ryder and Arronax given the situation on Nassau and Diedre would do anything for her children and this was hardly a sacrifice in her eyes as she can see them whenever she likes.
Jasper actually enjoys books, much like Arronax whereas Renn takes after his skills in singing. Both are excellent fighters and skilled pirates, capable of facing down the same terrible gales their father creates with just the thought as they have sailed with him many a time. This makes them formidable in battle due to the experienced Captain they learned from. However, Jasper is known infamously as the Devil’s Son for the streak of violence and cruelty in him that clearly is reminiscent of Ryder’s deep-seated rage. He is known for never leaving but one man alive to recount the tale and has an intense hatred of the English for what they did to his older sister when they were younger.
In general, he’s a quiet man, keeps to himself and can often be found with his nose in a book. It’s not unheard for him to be reading in the midst of a sword fight if the opponent does not require his full attention. Renn chastises him for this quite frequently, stating he should know better than to insult his opponents like that. Jasper is a traveled and learned man, doing much of the hunting for suppliers for Nassau and speaks several languages fairly well as a direct result. His is also known for giving much of his prize shares from ships he takes and cities he sacks back to Nassau itself, as a rule, seeking only the books and a small amount of coin to survive on.
Diedre herself says he takes his name, which means Treasurer or Bringer Of Treasurer, far too seriously and he would enjoy his riches. Jasper fails to see the point of this in the end, rather preferring new books as his reward, especially old books that are no longer in circulation or even expensive collectors editions of books he already has.
