The way I knew I would get an ask like this someday
It's not weird actually! They're very different ships and their writing is the key as to why I like one but not other I'll dive in.
There will be anti bakugou sentiment here, so if you're a fan of him get off that post
Ulquiorra and Bakugou
The biggest reason as to why ulquihime is better as ship is Ulquiorra. Ulquiorra is a villain and a corrupted soul it's very implied he wasn't even human and was born in Hueco Mundo, and again there is place of corrupted souls, their rules and morality can't be applied as to the human world or Soul Society, which means Ulquiorra himself didn't saw his actions as wrong, when kidnapping Orihime he did it beause he was following Aizen's orders but nothing more, there was no malice in that and he saw no problem doing that, but now to things he intetionally done to make harm we can say the cruel things he said to her in order to break her spirit, I mean to hollows humans are inferior beings but Ori didn't hesitated and it gave a good impression on him and made him interested on her. Also is important to note that Ulquiorra wanted to understand Orihime and the thoughts the way she does, when Ori slaps him for being cruel Ulquiorra let it, he could've easily avoid it since he's insanely stronger than her but it was fine for him, I swear to God if it was literally any other Arrancar I don't even like to imagine what would've happened to my girl..., he cares for her too ofc in his cold way but he does! Ulquiorra was worried if Orihime didn't eat, got worried when she wasn't in the same place as always and protected her when Aizen didn't even needed Ori anymore.
Now Bakugou..., he's a human in a human world with human morality, like Ulquiorra Bk also saw Izuku as an inferior being therefore giving the "Deku" nickname, but Hollows see humans as inferior because of their species, Bk saw Izuku as inferior because of his own superiority/inferiority complex and because Midoriya didn't have quirk..., the blonde kept tormenting Izuku straight up ten years and the entire first year of U.A. always putting him down, insulting him and being pshisically agressive to the point of almost killing him in their first fight. Bk doesn't care about Izuku, neither his feelings or what he thinks, the Deku vs Kacchan fight and his apology are the biggest examples, Bk didn't wanted to know how Izuku was feeling during that moment, never asked his opinion or wanted to know how it would affect him. When Izuku fights back Bk reaction is always terrible he gets fucking pissed off as if "only him can do the harm", there's three instances in the manga where he actually cares and show it in a human way, his sacrifice, the hospital scene and when Izuku lost his quirk (but it really seemed to me that he was more worried about the quirk and their rivarly but oh well) and both of these took 11 years and over 300 chapters to happen...
Orihime and Izuku
This topic is mostly related to how they react to Ulquiorra/Bkugou
Ahh my princess Orihime, when she first go to Hueco Mundo she's obviously scared and with a good reason, Ulquiorra was the one she spent more time with and Ori knew he was strong and could kill her easily so at first she was very frightened and scared of him. Orihime only started to feel comfortable and liking him when Ulquiorra himself changed his approach to her, wanting to understand her feelings and being more "flexible" with her to the point Ori calls him Ulquiorra-kun, when he opened his heart to her Orihime also opened her heart to him and that's why when he killed Ichigo she didn't got mad or sad at Ulquiorra, because she knew he never was a bad person.
Now Izuku... oh hell, my boy always liked Bk despite the bullying he still got around him, as he grows up Izuku starts seeing that Bk is an asshole and tries to stay away from him, but after some time he starts wanting to get around Bk again and his admiration for him cames back exactly to what it was as child despite Bk not changing his behaviour at all, and at the same time the blonde actions became gags instead of y'know actual violence. Horikoshi really downplays Izuku negative emotions towars Bk as the story goes on for no apparent reason, to the point where they became one-sided besties? Again Bk change took a lot of time to happen it makes no sense to him start being all friendly with Bk so sudden and even stop worrying about being insulted and beaten.
Development of their relationship
I already made a post about Ulquihime not being that bad here but I will repeat myself a little bit to compare how both ships developed in their respective stories.
Starting with the Beauty and the Beast first! One main point to me shipping Ulquihime is their development, compared the Bk Ulquiorra was willing to change for Ori way earlier (1 arc vs over 5 arcs help), despite having no morals and she being "inferior" he was willing to listen and understand her, yes started cold and cruel but he ended protecting her and her friends, Ulquiorra even asks in verge of death what's Orihime opinion on him because he cares a lot. Also Ori was allowed to fear him and have negative emotions on Ulquiorra, she had reasons to start liking him it was not retconned for no reason, he had good heart. And Orihime could be herself around Ulquiorra there was no need to keep the facade of pure innocent girl.
Now bk//dk which a lot could say they also have development but again how long it took? It's one-sided and higienezed, like I said Izuku started to get friendly with guy that was agressive with him since they were little FOR NO REASON it was kinda obvious that HK was biased towards Bk so Izuku needed to be too, Izuku started to like the blonde again because he was strongly heroic which is kinda stupid since act 1 Izuku wasn't like that. Despite Izuku being kind to him it took years to get a little bit of reciprocation and hey Bk never got any consequence for his actions, the higienazation was also so bad to the point where we can't see how Izuku felt about Bk's apology and they always were childhood friends with good memories from that time and Bk violence became a gag like..., it took so many years and terrible situations to them get in good terms to the point it makes me incapable of shipping it and the way horikoshi doesn't even see their relationship pre-war as that bad makes everything worse.
So to sum up Orihime is allowed to feel negative towars Ulquiorra, Kubo portrays their first interactions as bad and develops his charater and relationship with Ori with a lot of care and sense, it was obvious Kubo always wanted to redeem Ulquiorra. Orihime doesn't need to keep doing the emotional labour in their relationship, and it benefits her both as character and as person same thing for Ulquiorra, both need to confront each others mindset to evolve and they recognize each others strenghts.
Meanwhile Izuku keeps pedestalizing the gorund Bk walks on for plot convinience and is the one who keeps trying to make their relationship good, mind you the only time we see them having an actual conversation unrelated to OFA is in the timeskip 💀, Horikoshi admitted that he made Bk too "violent" but brushing this off in the story doesn't work beacuse it already was written it shouldn't be treated as it wasn't that bad because you regret it and seriously they don't match, they don't make each other better at all and their characters don't benefit from each other it doesn't matter how much the narrative says it does actually they make each other worse, they may have some good moments toegether but in general they're always better with other characters especially regarding their development.
So no it's not weird they may have "good person x someone who harmed them", but it was written in such a different way that is kinda comical to compare them. Anyways thanks anon, for giving me a opportunity to upilift Ulquihime and trash my NOTP!
I was going through some old art for to anyone who’s stuck around for longer than my hermitcraft phase and all the way back into sanders sides, how the fuck did you tolerate the shit I made bc LORD
