I really just love that everything about tlou2 is mechanically grounded in realism. Basically every animation can be cancelled, even to the point where you can fuck yourself over by being too impatient to wait for the reload to finish before changing weapons, or (if you’re me) forget that reloading or changing weapons while lying down means you can’t keep moving so you’re stuck belly on the ground getting a bow out of your backpack while an enemy approaches like a shmuck - it’s such a strong but small way of bringing you into the world. Like, the sheer variety and detail to these animations will never not blow my mind. Each animation is hours upon hours of work - the fact that theres a full animation for opening drawers and lockers, for looping rope up, it’s so far above and beyond what is really necessary to convey what’s happening.
