um i don't know if you wanted any input to that hair mention. That's the joy of fic. How much room you have if canon is missing something. Also I am so sorry if I get into it!
bleach is actually never mentioned like you said. I don't remember how detailed they go into Sansa's hair other than it's a dye prepared for her? You're reading it now so maybe they do? And blue hair is also mentioned in the books, I can't remember which one. So clearly hair can be dyed darker, bright or unnatural colors, and be removed or faded.
Also means you get to invent one if you want or end up writing fic. laundry though like u said, and via lye might be the way. it's westeros and fic, so if the fic needs an army camp to have a hair-lightening wash and you write something about a washerwoman mixing ash lye with herbs known to lighten hair or someone preparing a caustic wash or weak ash wash water or an herbailist knows of a plant mineral that lightens hair safely or whatever i think that'd be fine. That's just me though.
Or you can just not explain it... but maybe that would take you out of the fic if you'd be writing it? But you're right, sansa's dye doesn't answer the question and darkening hair is easy to accept. Making someone convincingly Targaryen is tricky so I understand a million percent.
yeah i totally appreciate the input thank you for providing some!!
basically sansa has a āwashā given to her by lysa that darkens her hair. her aunt providing her with a beauty product makes perfect sense because of her status and gender. and ooh yes ik thereās blue hair across the narrow sea! i think iām going to see that next book iām excited.
lightening hair is so different! so the challenge is to think of how ormund got his hands of hair lightening while camping with all his men. i think lye is very feasible! thank you for the tip!! surely some men must be in charge of the washing. and with ormundās smell sensitivity, he must be very familiar with the cleaning crew and see them often! i also like how strong and dangerous lye is. i think the blenching being uncomfortable both for the child and the person doing it to him would be interesting to explore. and sad of course. this poor little thing.
i just rewatched the scene and fake daeron actually says that his hair was āblenchedā not bleached. so thatās a fun little change that could allow for some leeway like what youāre describing with the herbs. i did want to go into detail about it for what iām envisioning, but also it doesnāt have to make perfect sense. i just wanted to set the scene and show this menial task taking place as daeron is feeling a lot of emotions about someone pretending to be him and ormundās plans for him. and also maybe explore fake daeronās fear and pleading. so i will absolutely have to name him! an easy thing to do in a show like this where names are so often repeated and tied to locations. he is a merchantās son from the reach. so i could pick from a list of characters from there. or often times children will be named after the king. how sad would it be if this childās name was viserys? that would make daeron feel so much.

āIn a way, for me, this whole series has been a love story between Logan and Kendall,ā Strong reflected.Ā āHeās like the sun that Iāve been orbiting my whole life and I want his light to shine on me, but also if I get too close itāll burn me up.ā

even though i said i donāt write while the season is writing.. that last fic inspired me to write down a half thought for a daeron fic. and immediately i am wasted because how does hair bleaching work in westeros. iām reading feast rn and sansa puts dark dye in her hair but thatās different. fake daeronās hair was bleached. where does one get bleach on a battlefield. do the people who do the washing have it??? is it liquid?? or powder that you mix with goo like modern bleach. see. this is so hard already šš
... are the hotd or got worms near fic territory?
hm maybe. though i donāt read fic when a show is airing. so maybe after the season if i get very into reading hotd fic then that could inspire me to write. rn iām very locked into the show canon and not interested in imagining my own scenarios or stories belonging to other fans. just how my brain works!
i would feel sooo un-confident about writing during this time period. which sucks because i love the setting so much and think itās so essential. so⦠i think any piece i would write would be very introspective. i love alicent forever sheāll always be my favorite but omg idek what sheās feelings about going to harrenhall this is all so crazy! i think i have a better grip on her s1 emotions so honestly⦠i think the character iām most touched by this season is daeron. heās the one who sticks in my mind throughout the week. so maybe i could write something about him? paralleling his journey to young alicentās in s1. that could be fun. i really love gwayne and ormund is such a compelling and well developed baddie. plus thereās the whole tessarian of it all. like what is baby alicent had a flying war machine lol!
what do you think? and are you (or anyone!) interested in writing some hotd fic?
i love when love spoils. though iām not sure the rudeness cersei is detecting here is truly because of her gender. it would be a stretch to say that his time with brienne cured him completely of all misogyny, but i do think that set him on the right path. i think he speaks back to her just because of their close bond. but cersei is intent on reading his insolence like thisā¦. maybe because itās one thing about her that she canāt change. like if jaime said she want fit to rule due to her temper or her drinking or her obsession with revenge then well. those things are personal, those are choices she makes. so she hides behind this one part of her that isnāt a choice. which in many ways DOES make her life harder and worse!! so. itās not a hard difficult mental jump to make. hm.
