I just sent an ask so sorry, but there's also a sexual component to it on top of what inshared. Sometimes it doesn't seem inherently sexual or just sexual. Lots of room especially with the we share this body, let me make you feel what you missed out on or what I got to experience.

That would be really juicy for the marks post cold harbor actually, especially if they are at a different understanding. I have lots of thoughts about how how the show is so brilliant and showing that hellyna and omark imark whatever were on such different tracts and had such different relationships to their outies and each of their mindsets and how both Marks are basically told the same thing about lumon and how they are the same person.

yeah i think a sexual component is needed. like specific some moment where they’re deriving sexual pleasure explicitly from the thought of their other self. whether that’s because helena wants to be helly. of helly is mad at helena and wants her own memory.

sorry i wasnt super clear lmao. Less a / and more for example a non canon tag or freeform, especially severance like oh a touch of hellyna selfcest.... does that mean the weird innie outie relationship and all the other things i mentioned in the ask. the possible fixation, self hatred, messy emotions, they literally share a body, wanting to be the other person, wanting to hurt them, and so on etc. I hope i make sense. obviously relationships are not always able to be simply defined as strictly platonic or strictly romantic. there’s a lot of room for gray there. like if an author shows that helena is not only getting off on being with imark but also getting sexual pleasure at the thought of being helly… yeah i think the touch of selfcest makes sense there. and just the idea of masturbation in general… if someone’s mind wanders to their other half..! and how could it not? theyhave the same body. they’re touching themselves and the other at the same time. it’s all mushy 😂

sometimes i see the selfcest tags on different severance fics and sometimes i wonder what counts. Self hatred almost? Fixation at times? Resentment? Thinking about your innie or outie too much? so many things to consider and no clear definition it seems

to go back to basics, any relationship tagged with a slash (/) denotes a romantic relationship. whereas any with a ampersand (&) denotes a platonic one.

so i’m guessing what you’re referring to as selfcest has a slash. and so me that’s always going to mean a romantic or sexual element.

if it’s just someone being fixated with their other half in ways like resentment and self-hatred then i would personally file that with an ampersand. thinking about them too much… it depends the situations that bring about these thoughts and what the thoughts are.

like imo being curious or even obsessed with how your other self acts in bed isn’t slash. that feels like a normal curiosity for anyone in this insane situation of having two selves. but being obsessed with fantasizing about having sex with the other half is slash. or like… feeling like you’re having sex with them because you’ve both fucked the same person. that would be slash to me.

but that’s just one person’s opinion who doesn’t even write selfcest! so take all this with a grain of salt. i’m definitely not the most educated on the topic.
