you talked about the logistics of your photocopy fic and the cameras, which was so neat and also a way to show the dynamic.

Did they get rid of cameras but not microphones in season 2 ? They talk a lot in hushed voices in season 2 so it makes me wonder. Obviously mdr doesnt truly know but I've seen a discussion or two about how they are being observed by their doubles

at first i thought i was being way to anal about it and just too strict on myself for keeping things by the book (by the show?) but that restriction actually led me to explore a lot of character stuff about mark that i didn’t originally plan. like his fear of getting caught and nerves over the OTC and his how he didn’t feel like being alive in the past but now with helly he does. it reminds me of those magicians with this never ending scarves. i pulled on this idea and it just kept getting longer i’m like shit when is this going to end! so it was more work than i thought but i’m really pleased with it. i’m glad you found the discussion interesting.

my guess is that there’s still cameras recording visuals and audio, they’re just more disguised. who is doing the grunt work of watching/listening to that? i don’t know. if it’s milchick’s job… he is so overworked i can see how he would just skip it at the end of the day!

like in the orginal 1x09 script there is a scene of natalie showing jame and ‘helena’ (it’s actually helly as it’s during the OTC) video footage of the melly kiss. so… in that version of the show someone saw that and reported it to her. but since it’s cut, maybe we can assume that the footage was breezed over and not looked at until after they knew about the OTC taking place. so maybe they’re always filming but they only check the tapes if something goes wrong.

and then there’s something to be said about if, during s2, they thought they didn’t need cameras because helena could just tell them everything. idk! there’s a lot to think about here.
